{"id":136062,"date":"2015-06-10T12:48:08","date_gmt":"2015-06-10T19:48:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=136062"},"modified":"2015-06-10T12:48:08","modified_gmt":"2015-06-10T19:48:08","slug":"mcdaniels-brad-brooks-near-perfect-in-the-pool-and-classroom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/mcdaniels-brad-brooks-near-perfect-in-the-pool-and-classroom\/","title":{"rendered":"McDaniel&#8217;s Brad Brooks Near-Perfect in the Pool and Classroom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Brad Brooks<\/strong> (Newark, Del.\/Charter School of Wilmington), a junior on the McDaniel men&#8217;s swimming team, was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Division III at-large second team on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Brooks earned his second straight nod to the team with a 4.00 GPA as of the end of the fall semester. Fifteen student-athletes, who are not part of the 12 sports that have a distinct Academic All-America team, are selected to each at-large team.<\/p>\n<p>The exercise science and physical education major advanced to the national ballot after being named to the all-district first team on May 14.<\/p>\n<p>Brooks was tabbed as a third-team Academic All-American in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Brooks won the 500 and 1,650 freestyle as well as the 400 IM at the 2015 Centennial Conference (CC) championship meet. He was named the meet&#8217;s Most Outstanding Performer for his showing. In three seasons racing at the CC championship, he has eight gold medals and one silver medal to his ledger.<\/p>\n<p>The only All-American in men&#8217;s swimming program history, Brooks is has a pair of honorable-mention accolades to his career credit to go with one first-team honor last year.<\/p>\n<p>A five-time Dean&#8217;s List selection with Highest Honors, he was selected as a College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-American in 2013 and 2014. He was also a Capital One Academic All-America third-team selection last year.<\/p>\n<p>The members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) select the All-District team. District II consists of all of the Division III colleges and universities in Connecticut, Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.<\/p>\n<p>To be nominated for the Capital One Academic All-America program presented by CoSIDA, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 or higher cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or significant reserve.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><i>The above article is a press release submitted to Swimming World.
