{"id":135911,"date":"2015-06-09T07:31:34","date_gmt":"2015-06-09T14:31:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=135911"},"modified":"2015-06-09T09:36:30","modified_gmt":"2015-06-09T16:36:30","slug":"joseph-schooling-runs-gold-medal-tally-to-6-at-sea-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/joseph-schooling-runs-gold-medal-tally-to-6-at-sea-games\/","title":{"rendered":"Joseph Schooling Runs Gold-Medal Tally to 6 at SEA Games"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Singapore&#8217;s <strong>Joseph Schooling<\/strong> earned his fifth and sixth gold medals of the meet with an individual and relay victory tonight at the 2015 Southeast Asian Games.<\/p>\n<p>Schooling set a Games record in the men&#8217;s 100-meter butterfly in a time of 52.13, downing his 2013 mark of 52.67. \u00a0Indonesia&#8217;s <strong>Glenn Sutanto<\/strong> (52.90) and <strong>Triady Sidiq<\/strong> (53.98) rounded out the podium.<\/p>\n<p>Schooling collected another gold as Singapore&#8217;s Schooling (49.74), <strong>Kai Quan Yeo<\/strong> (50.56), <strong>Clement Lim<\/strong> (49.81) and <strong>Zheng Wen Quah<\/strong> (49.48) won the men&#8217;s 400-meter free relay in 3:19.59. \u00a0That swim dropped the Games record of 3:21.74 set by Singapore in 2013. \u00a0It also lowered the Singapore record of 3:20.98 set at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.<\/p>\n<p>In her attempt to become Vietnam&#8217;s version of the Iron Lady <strong>Katinka Hosszu<\/strong>, <strong>Vien Nguyen<\/strong> doubled up with a pair of victories tonight en route to her sixth gold medal and eighth medal of any kind as she&#8217;s slated to swim every event.<\/p>\n<p>Nguyen won the women&#8217;s 200-meter free in 1:59.27, downing <strong>Ting Wen Quah<\/strong>&#8216;s Games record of 2:00.57 from 2009. \u00a0Thailand&#8217;s <strong>Natthanan Junkrajang<\/strong> (2:00.54) and Philippines&#8217; <strong>Jasmine Alkhadi<\/strong> (2:00.84) wound up second and third.<\/p>\n<p>That swim crushed Nguyen&#8217;s Vietnamese record of 2:01.80 set on the Mesa stop of the Arena Pro Swim Series.<\/p>\n<p>Nguyen also won the women&#8217;s 200-meter fly in 2:11.12. That time smashed the Games record of 2:13.49 set by <strong>Tao Li<\/strong> in 2009. \u00a0It also blasted Nguyen&#8217;s Vietnamese record of 2:12.46 set at the 2014 Southeast Asian Games.<\/p>\n<p>Quah placed second in 2:14.50 with Thailand&#8217;s <strong>Sutasinee Pankaew<\/strong> taking third in 2:14.51.<\/p>\n<p>Singapore&#8217;s <strong>Zheng Wen Quah<\/strong> topped the men&#8217;s 400-meter IM with a time of 4:23.50. That swim just missed the Games record of 4:23.20 set by <strong>Ratapong Sirisanont<\/strong> of Thailand from 2003.<\/p>\n<p>Singapore&#8217;s <strong>Sheng Jun Pang<\/strong> took second tonight in 4:24.81, while Vietnam&#8217;s <strong>Duy Khoi Tran<\/strong> placed third in 4:26.29.<\/p>\n<p>Tao topped the women&#8217;s 100-meter back in 1:02.67, while Indonesia&#8217;s <strong>Anak Ratih<\/strong> placed second in 1:04.38. \u00a0Philippines&#8217; <strong>Roxanne Yu<\/strong> touched third in 1:04.80.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/results\/2015-southeast-asian-games-day-four-day-4\/international-elite\/2015\/June\/6\" target=\"_blank\">2015 Southeast Asian Games, Day Four &#8211; Results<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Singapore&#8217;s Joseph Schooling earned his fifth and sixth gold medals of the meet with an individual and relay victory tonight at the 2015 Southeast Asian Games.
