PHOENIX, Arizona, February 1. SENIOR Mike Alexandrov of Division I Northwestern University and sophomore Kelly Norsworthy of Division III Colby College were named Swimming World Magazine's<\/i> College Swimmers of the Week.<\/p>\n

The award is an extension of the National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week honors given out by Collegeswimming.com across three divisions of NCAA competition. While both Alexandrov and Norsworthy won their respective Division I and Division III awards from Collegeswimming.com, Christine Magnuson of Tennessee won the female Division I honor, while Keith Diggs of Emory took home male Division III kudos. Meanwhile, Whitney Wodstrchill of Truman State and Rodrigo Ferreira of North Dakota garnered the Division II awards.<\/p>\n

Alexandrov led the Wildcats to wins over Michigan, 189.5-144.5, and Ohio State, 185.5-148.5. With the victories, Northwestern completed the season with an unblemished 8-0 mark. Five of those triumphs came over ranked opponents. Northwestern opened the dual with a pool record and NCAA B cut to win the 400 medley relay (3:12.03), with Alexandrov swimming the breaststroke leg. Alexandrov followed that up with a pool record and NCAA B cut to win the 200 breaststroke (1:57.45). He led off the second day of competition with a win as a part of victorious 200 medley relay that achieved an NCAA B cut (1:27.86). Alexandrov then blazed to a more than 2.5 second win in the 100 breaststroke (53.14), swimming an A cut to establish yet another pool record for NU.<\/p>\n

Norsworthy led Colby College to wins over Trinity College, 208-87, and Wesleyan University, 175-119. Norsworthy had two NCAA B-cut times in winning two of her three individual events. The B cuts came in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.56) and 200 breaststroke (2:24.98).
