Margo Geer and a handful of other past, present, and future Arizona Wildcats continued to have some in-season success at the Southwest Classic in Tucson. After showing terrific in-season speed in the women\u2019s 100-meter free on day two, Geer showed no signs of slowing down in the 50-meter free. She dropped a 25.39 to win the event over second-place finisher Paige Kremer (26.26). Bonnie Brandon\u2019s 26.98 was fast enough to get third.<\/p>\n
Molly Gowans continued her domination of the freestyle events on day three. Coming off her 800 and 400-meter free victories, tonight she powered to an overwhelming victory in the women\u2019s 200-meter free in 2:02.23. Sarah Shimomura swam a 2:05.22 to get second, while Bonnie Brandon took third in 2:06.20. Geer, swimming in the B final as the 16th qualifier, blazed through that heat to post the fastest swim of the meet with a 2:02.20.<\/p>\n
On the men\u2019s side, Brad Tandy zipped to a victory in the 50-meter free with a 22.89. Arizona recruit Chad Idensohn (23.47) touched out Nick Thoman (23.74) to get third.<\/p>\n
Olympic gold medalist Darian Townsend (1:52.55) edged Nick Hogsed (1:53.05) in the men\u2019s 200-meter free. After the first 100 meters, Townsend and Hogsed were separated by mere hundredths of a second before Townsend came home in a 57.13 to win. Eric Ress finished third in 1:55.15.<\/p>\n
Arizona junior Emma Schoettmer won the women\u2019s 100-meter breast with a final time of 1:10.55. Her Wildcat teammate Sara Borendame posted a 1:12.71 to place second, and Renae Ledoux wound up third in 1:13.34.<\/p>\n
In the men\u2019s 100-meter breast, Gage Crosby won a tight duel over Marcus Titus. Crosby entered the meet as the third seed in the event, but carried home a win in 1:03.43. Titus, one of the fastest deaf swimmers in American history, wasn\u2019t far behind with his 1:03.56. Zach Hojnacki rounded out the top three in 1:06.31.<\/p>\n
Mackenzie Padington gutted out a victory in the women\u2019s 400-meter IM with a final time of 5:04.29. Megan Dalke was not far behind in 5:05.97. Jordyn Ryan ended up third with a 5:06.85.<\/p>\n
It took Michael Meyer all he had to hold off Minnesota-Gopher-to-be Michael Messner in the men\u2019s 400-meter IM. Meyer (4:29.74) touched out Messner (4:29.91) in an exciting finish. Josh Zakala took third with a 4:34.74.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
