{"id":135676,"date":"2015-06-06T06:50:09","date_gmt":"2015-06-06T13:50:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=135676"},"modified":"2015-06-06T06:58:05","modified_gmt":"2015-06-06T13:58:05","slug":"vien-nguyen-doubles-with-vietnamese-record-at-southeast-asian-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/vien-nguyen-doubles-with-vietnamese-record-at-southeast-asian-games\/","title":{"rendered":"Vien Nguyen Doubles With Vietnamese Record at Southeast Asian Games"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Vietnam&#8217;s <strong>Vien Nguyen<\/strong> kicked off the 2015 Southeast Asian Games with a pair of victories that included a Vietnamese record in the 800-meter freestyle event.<\/p>\n<p>Nguyen lowered the Games record in the women&#8217;s 400-meter IM with a time of 4:42.88. \u00a0That swim undercut her own 4:43.93 from prelims. \u00a0Thailand&#8217;s <strong>Phiangkhwan Pawapotako<\/strong> placed second in 4:52.63 with Singapore&#8217;s <strong>Jing Wen Quah<\/strong> snaring third in 4:59.52.<\/p>\n<p>Nguyen doubled up with a Vietnamese and Games record in the women&#8217;s 800-meter free. \u00a0She clocked an 8:34.85. \u00a0That swim cleared the Games record of 8:35.41 set by <strong>Lynette Lim<\/strong> of Singapore back in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Nguyen also smashed her Vietnamese record of 8:40.75 set at the 2014 Southeast Asian Championships.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ammiga Himathongkom<\/strong> (8:52.99) and <strong>Benjaporn Sriphanomthorn<\/strong> (8:56.39) touched second and third.<\/p>\n<p>That makes Nguyen two-for-two\u00a0as she&#8217;s attempting to swim in 13 events on the schedule.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quy Phuoc Hoang<\/strong> set a Vietnamese and Games record in the men&#8217;s 200-meter free. \u00a0Hoang hit the wall in 1:48.96 for the win. \u00a0Coming into the meet, Malaysia&#8217;s <strong>Henry Bego<\/strong> owned the Games record with a 1:49.22 from 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Hoang downed his Vietnamese mark of 1:49.69 from the 2014 Southeast Asian Games.<\/p>\n<p>Singapore&#8217;s <strong>Zheng Wen Quah<\/strong> placed second in 1:49.17 with Malaysia&#8217;s <strong>Welson Wee Shen Sim<\/strong> earning third in 1:50.73.<\/p>\n<p>Queh returned in the men&#8217;s 100-meter back to break the Singapore and Games record in the event. \u00a0Quah clocked a 54.51, lower than the 55.59 set by <strong>Siman Sudartawa<\/strong> back in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>That swim also downed Quah&#8217;s Singapore mark of 55.86 from the 2015 Singapore Age Group Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Sudartawa took second tonight in 55.60 with Vietnam&#8217;s <strong>Duy Khoi Tran<\/strong> winding up third in 56.31.<\/p>\n<p>Thailand&#8217;s <strong>Radomyos Matjiur<\/strong> claimed the men&#8217;s 200-meter breast title in 2:14.83, while Singapore&#8217;s <strong>Chien Yin Lionel Khoo<\/strong> (2:16.66) and <strong>Christopher Ee Hong Cheong<\/strong> (2:16.99) closed out the podium.<\/p>\n<p>In relay action, Singapore&#8217;s <strong>Marina Chan<\/strong> (58.07),<strong> Xiang Qi Lim<\/strong> (56.13), <strong>En Qi Hoong<\/strong> (56.41) and <strong>Tin Wen Quah<\/strong> (55.99) won the women&#8217;s 400-meter free relay in 3:46.60.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/results\/2015-southeast-asian-games-day-one-day-1\/international-elite\/2015\/June\/6\" target=\"_blank\">2015 Southeast Asian Games, Day One &#8211; Results<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"SideBarContainer\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vietnam&#8217;s Vien Nguyen kicked off the 2015 Southeast Asian Games with a pair of victories that included a Vietnamese record in the 800-meter freestyle event.
