{"id":135569,"date":"2015-06-05T06:10:36","date_gmt":"2015-06-05T13:10:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=135569"},"modified":"2015-06-05T06:10:36","modified_gmt":"2015-06-05T13:10:36","slug":"florida-gators-ink-one-more-total-10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/florida-gators-ink-one-more-total-10\/","title":{"rendered":"Florida Gators Ink One More, Total 10"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Florida\u2019s men\u2019s swimming and diving program added another swimmer to its 2015 signing class, head coach <strong>Gregg Troy <\/strong>announced <span data-term=\"goog_614938454\">Friday<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Florida inked a transfer from Virginia Tech, <strong>Jan<\/strong> <strong>Switkowski<\/strong>, a native of Lublin, Poland.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very excited to have Jan (Switkowski) join the program,\u201d head coach Gregg Troy said. \u201cHe swims a lot of different events and is very similar to some of our outstanding athletes from previous years. His versatility, good academics and focus will all be tremendous assets to the program.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The rest of UF\u2019s signing class includes nine other student-athletes, as Troy and his staff tapped the United States coast-to-coast and traveled to Austria, New Zealand and Scotland to collect the best talent, including <strong>Brennan Balogh<\/strong> (Lincoln, Neb.), <strong>Grady Heath<\/strong> (Green Cove Springs, Fla.), <strong>Alexander Lebed<\/strong> (Fort Washington, Pa.), <strong>Bayley Main<\/strong> (Auckland, New Zealand), <strong>Christoph Margotti<\/strong> (Austria),\u00a0<strong>Ross Palazzo<\/strong> (Hudson, Ohio), <strong>Samuel Smith<\/strong> (Knoxville, Tenn.), <strong>Jack Szaranek<\/strong> (Glenrothes, Scotland) and <strong>Stanley Wu<\/strong> (Concord, Calif.).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled about the quality and depth of this class,\u201d Troy continued. \u201cWe covered a lot of our needs with these student-athletes. This is an outstanding class of men that are not only extremely talented in the pool, but are great students as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>MEET THE FUTURE GATOR<\/h3>\n<p>Jan Switkowski (Lublin Poland)<br \/>\n2013-14 season at Virginia Tech: NCAA Championships: Competed on two relay teams for the Hokies as he swam the second leg of VT\u2019s 800-yard freestyle relay (18th place) and fourth leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay (22nd place)<\/p>\n<p>ACC Championships: Won the 500-yard freestyle ACC Championship and placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle and 10th in the 200-yard butterfly and was a member of VT\u2019s runner-up 800-yard freestyle relay team and third place 400-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relay squad<\/p>\n<p>Competed in five dual meets and two invitational competitions for the Hokies where he registered nine individual event wins and was a member of six winning relay squads.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to Virginia Tech: Swam for his father, Andrey Switkowski; Poland National Champion in 200 IM (long course), 200 Free and 400 IM (short course)<\/p>\n<p>Swam for the Polish National Team at World Championships in Istanbul (2012) and Barcelona (2013) and will be again in 2015; Was a finalist in the 4&#215;200 freestyle at the 2014 European Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Switkowski on Florida:<strong><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><em>\u201cI chose Florida because it feels like a place where I will find a perfect balance between training and academics.
