TO be quite honest, it was a relatively uneventful weekend in the pool. At this point in the season, the majority of the teams in the country are preparing for the upcoming conference championships. As a result, the fireworks will really begin to burn in a few weeks and the campaign will surge into March&#39;s NCAA Championships. But, here are a few notable developments from the college scene from the past few days.<\/p>\n<p>**Unfortunately, we start on a sour note as it was announced on Friday that Butler University, following a disturbing and growing trend, is killing men&#39;s swimming. The Butler announcement arrived one day after Ohio University indicated that it was taking the hatchet to its men&#39;s program. Although Butler is currently a non-scholarship sport, the program has been in existence since 1928.<\/p>\n<p>That Butler is eliminating men&#39;s swimming is another bad sign for the sport, as it is further evidence that athletic directors across the country are too frequently using the excuse of finances or Title IX for their ability to take opportunities from male athletes. On the positive side, a pair of small schools have decided to add swimming, as Ramapo (N.J.) and Milligan (Tenn.) will soon offer the sport.<\/p>\n<p>**Last week, we took a look at the sensational efforts of Northwestern&#39;s Matt Grevers in the 200 individual medley. This weekend, we were impressed by Grevers&#39; 50 free split of 18.99 on the end of the 200 free relay. Obviously, Grevers is ready to cap his collegiate career in stylish fashion. Behind Grevers, the Wildcats finished an unbeaten regular season and handed Michigan its first Big Ten Conference loss since 1999.<\/p>\n<p>**Throughout the season, Florida State has impressively roared into the Top 10 of the women&#39;s rankings. But, the Seminoles suffered their first loss of the season over the weekend, albeit to a power program: Auburn. The Tigers scored a 129-112 decision in their final dual meet of the season.
