Loyola University New Orleans has announced\u00a0T.J. Natal<\/strong> as their new head men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming coach. Loyola University competes in the Southern States Athletic Conference in the NAIA.<\/p>\n

Natal is no stranger to Louisiana. He swam for Louisiana State from 2001-2003, volunteered at the University of New Orleans, and worked with Tulane University from 2010-2013. He comes to Loyola after serving as the Assistant Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s Coach at UConn.<\/p>\n

Loyola names T.J. Natal as head men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming coach\u00a0(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans Director of Athletics and\u00a0Wellness Brett Simpson<\/strong> announced today the hiring of T.J. Natal as the\u00a0head men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming coach. Natal joins the Wolf Pack after\u00a0previously serving as the Assistant Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s Coach at the\u00a0University of Connecticut.\u00a0 He also worked with the swimming program at\u00a0Tulane from 2010-2013.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are excited to have T.J. return to New Orleans to lead our men\u2019s\u00a0and women\u2019s swimming program,\u201d said Simpson. \u201cA proven recruiter, he\u00a0brings a wealth of experience in attracting student athletes who will\u00a0excel in the classroom and in the pool.\u00a0 We look forward to T.J. building\u00a0a swimming program that will make the Loyola community proud.\u201d<\/p>\n

During his time in Storrs, Conn., Natal served as the head men\u2019s and\u00a0women\u2019s recruiting coordinator and also focused his efforts as the head\u00a0sprint and middle distance coach, while developing a new dry land training\u00a0regimen for the team. During the 2014 season, 18 swimmers earned American\u00a0Athletic All-Conference honors and both the men\u2019s and women\u2019s teams\u00a0recorded winning records. In his two seasons with the Huskies, Natal\u00a0coached 27 All-Conference selections.<\/p>\n

Natal began his tenure at Tulane in August of 2010 as a volunteer\u00a0assistant and later moved to full time assistant\/recruiting coordinator in\u00a0May of 2011. He served as interim head swim and dive coach from August\u00a02012 to July 2013.\u00a0 In addition to guiding and coordinating the daily\u00a0aspects of a NCAA Division I swimming program, he was responsible for the\u00a0recruitment of the entire 2013-14 class.<\/p>\n

Natal also served as volunteer assistant coach at the University of New Orleans (UNO) during the 2009 season, where he helped eight swimmers earn\u00a0NCAA B cuts, coached two conference champions and had several top eight\u00a0finishers at the Sun Belt Conference Championship Meet.<\/p>\n

There is something deeply significant about returning to\u00a0my hometown, and it is truly an honor to become part of the Loyola\u00a0Community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prior to his time at UNO, Natal spent roughly five years as the the\u00a0program director and head swim coach at Elmwood Fitness Center in Harahan,\u00a0La. There, he coached five high school All-Americans and helped four\u00a0swimmers qualify for Junior Nationals. He also served as the varsity head\u00a0coach at Archbishop Chapelle High School in 2007.<\/p>\n

A graduate of Archbishop Rummel High School in Metairie, La., Natal was a\u00a0four-time All-District selection and a three-time All-State selection. He\u00a0won state titles in the 100m freestyle as a junior and both the 50m and\u00a0100m freestyle as a senior. Natal also swam for the Elmwood Sharks from\u00a01992-99 where he posted six Junior National cuts and one Senior National\u00a0cut.<\/p>\n

Natal swam at Louisiana State University (LSU) from 2001-2003. He later\u00a0earned his bachelor\u2019s degree in liberal arts from Our Lady of Holy Cross\u00a0College in 2006.<\/p>\n

Loyola<\/a> announced the addition of men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming earlier\u00a0this year.\u00a0 The teams will begin competition in 2016-17.\u00a0 Along with the\u00a0addition of competitive cheer and dance, Loyola will have 17\u00a0intercollegiate sports in the fall of 2016.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
