Alexander Dale Oen was memorialized with a statue in his hometown of Oygarden, Norway, today, with more than a hundred locals on hand to honor the late swimming star.<\/p>\n

Dale Oen, who died April 30, 2012,<\/a> of cardiac arrest in Flagstaff, Ariz., during a training camp, would have turned 30 years old last Thursday. His legacy lives on in Norwegian swimming and in those around the world who raced him and called him friend. He was the 2011 world champion in the 100 breast and 2008 Olympic silver medalist.<\/p>\n

The statue, designed by sculptor Arne Meland, was unveiled at the Coastal Museum in Oygarden, where more than 3 million krone was spent for renovations. The event featured a concert where songs were performed by various Norwegian celebrities.
