CORVALLIS, Oregon, January 21. THE Oregon State swim team began the weekend by defeating the University of Idaho 117-75. The Beavers (7-7, 0-5 Pacific-10 Conference) led from start to finish as they won each of the ten events swam competitively.<\/p>\n
"We did a real good job and we were real relaxed," OSU head coach Larry Liebowitz said. "They swam hard and we raced very well. It was a fun meet."<\/p>\n
The relay team of Brittney Iverson, Felicia Castaneda, Kayla Rawlings, and Anna Crandall began the evening by swimming the Beavers to victory in the 400 Yard Medley Relay (3:55.91). Sandy Hong followed with a victory in the 1000 Freestyle (10:22.10) before Rawlings won the 200 Free (1:52.99). <\/p>\n
The fourth event of the evening, the 50 Free, was won by Robin Klein (24.70). The victory was the first dual meet win for Klein. The sophomore is in her first year of competition after transferring from the University of Maryland Baltimore. Klein's night was not quite finished as she later won the 100 Free (53.17) for her second career dual meet win.<\/p>\n
Freshman Anna Crandall continued the Beaver winning streak as she was victorious in the 200 Individual Medley (2:08.98) and was followed by a Rawlings victory in the 200 Butterfly (2:04.67). The two victories for Rawlings give her 12 on the season. <\/p>\n
Klein's victory in the 100 Free set the stage for a strong finish as the Beavers finished the meet with Hong winning the 500 Free (5:02.14), Corrinne Burrow holding off teammate Felicia Castaneda in the 200 Breaststroke (2:22.25), and then the relay team of Crandall, Agata Szewczuk, Klein, and Erika Wirth concluded the night by winning the 200 Free Relay (1:38.62). <\/p>\n
With her two dual meet wins, Hong now has 36 career dual meet wins. She is three away from tying Ausra Pacebutaite for sixth on the career dual meet wins list.
\nThe Beavers finish the weekend tomorrow at 11 A.M. when they host Washington State. The meet is the final home meet for three OSU seniors. Hong, Julie McCauley, and Wirth will all suit up one final time at Steven's Natatorium for the Beavers. <\/p>\n
