AMHERST, Massachusetts, January 21. -LESS than 24 hours after falling to the Purple Cows of Williams College, Boston College swimming diving traveled to Amherst where they split a dual meet with Massachusetts last night. The men were defeated 199-92 but the women would win the final relay of the meet – setting a new pool record – narrowly edging the Minutewomen 153-147.<\/p>\n
On the men's side, the Minutemen would prove too strong for the Eagles as they would win all but four events. UMass would turn in two school record performances from R.J. Rappe on the three-meter board and Evan Swisher in the 200 back. Swisher also won the 100 back and was a member of the 200 medley relay.<\/p>\n
Earning wins for the Eagles were senior Michael Cartwright as he placed first in the 200 yard back with a time of 2:05.94. Junior Joseph Maloy and freshman Tim Jordan also collected wins in the 500 yard free and 200 yard IM respectively.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Caroline Byron was again impressive earning four top-three finishes including three wins in the 50, 100 and 200 yard free respectively. The Eagles also got wins from sophomore Kelly Leahey and freshmen Ashley Leprine and Caitlin Doherty. Leprine would also collect three wins as she placed first in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke as well as the 200 yard IM.<\/p>\n
Heading into the final event, the 400 free relay, UMass led by three points, 143-140. Junior Elizabeth Snyder gave the Eagles a one-second lead after the third leg of the race which they made hold up for the win. <\/p>\n
