COLLEGE STATION, Texas, January 20. THE Texas A&M men's swimming and diving team upset No. 24 Louisiana State in exciting fashion on Saturday at the TAMU Student Recreation Natatorium.<\/p>\n
The Aggies (2-2) swept both dives, won four individual races, and both relays on their way to a 159-141 win over the Tigers.<\/p>\n
"We've been eagerly anticipating a meet like this. It's something we've wanted very badly," head swimming coach Jay Holmes said. "We've talked a lot about having faith and confidence in the work we've done. It's always fun as a coach to see your team take steps like that.<\/p>\n
"It was just a great college dual meet. It went back and forth between the teams the whole meet, and I'm proud of the way we kept fighting and competing. LSU has a very good team this year and we can build on this type of a win."<\/p>\n
The performances of Israel Duran and Alejandro Jacobo were key components of the Aggie victory. Duran won the 100- and 200-yard butterfly while Jacobo took first place in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke. Both swimmers also contributed in the victorious 200-yard medley relay, which also included Shawn Clarke and Francisco Picasso.<\/p>\n
"It was one of the most fun meets I've ever been a part of," said Duran. "I'm getting better and improving my times. That's my goal. I have a lot of motivation to compete for this school."<\/p>\n
Aggie diver Eric Sehn was also impressive, winning both the one-meter and three-meter springboard dives with scores of 338.32 and 360.97, respectively.<\/p>\n
The last event of the day, the 400-yard freestyle relay, provided the most exciting moments of the meet. With the victory still up for grabs, the foursome of Picasso, Casey Strange, Gregory Widmer and Clarke came from behind and won in dramatic fashion with a time of 3:02.09.<\/p>\n
The Aggie men will next see action Friday, January 26 as they take on SMU in College Station. The meet will begin at 7:00 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
