THE Miami University women's swimming and diving team (9-0; 5-0 MAC) downed Marshall University and Radford University Friday night in a triangular meet. The RedHawks kept their perfect record intact as they beat the Thundering Herd, 183-117, in a meeting of former Mid-American Conference rivals and defeated the Highlanders, 231-49.

In typical Miami fashion, the RedHawks won 12 of the16 events contested as 10 different swimmers and divers notched individual victories. Senior Ashley Seymour was the only Miamian with multiple victories as she won both the 200 freestyle and 200 backstroke. Miami also swept the diving, backstroke and butterfly events in its convincing victory.

The RedHawks opened the meet with a first-place time of 1:49.29 in the 200 medley relay, and after Marshall placed the top swimmer in the 1,000 freestyle, Miami ripped off eight consecutive wins, effectively ending any doubt about the meet's outcome. Seymour kicked off the Miami winning streak with a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:53.86).

Following Seymour's win, the RedHawks notched four consecutive top swimming finishes. Sophomore Tenley Marsteller placed first in the 100 backstroke (59.73) and freshman Karen Frazier followed as the top swimmer in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.97). Sophomores Malarie Schmidt and Allison Stevens then added back-to-back wins in the 200 butterfly (2:07.77) and 50 freestyle (24.50), respectively.

Sophomore Melissa Roemmele notched Miami's first diving win on the 3-meter board (251.05) before sophomore Jennifer Nemeth and Seymour posted victories in the 100 freestyle (54.12) and 200 backstroke (2:10.64), respectively. The Thundering Herd finally stopped the RedHawk winning streak when they placed the top swimmer in the 200 breaststroke.

Miami bounced back and won the next three events, beginning with sophomore Maggie French's top finish in the 500 freestyle (5:09.08). Senior Diana Zeleznikar then posted Miami's final swimming win with a first-place time in the 100 butterfly (58.10), and freshman Kelsey Anagnos completed a Miami sweep of the boards with her top score in the 1-meter dive (267.85).

The RedHawks also turned in the top time in the 200 freestyle relay (1:39.12) but did not swim the event for points.

Miami resumes conference action Saturday when it travels to face the Ohio Bobcats. The two teams hit the pool in Athens at 1 p.m.

HUNTINGTON, West Virginia, January 20.
