James Allen of Phoenix Swimming in Massachusetts plans on swimming close to home for college. Allen signed his National Letter of Intent to join the University of Massachusetts \u2013 Amherst next school year.<\/p>\n

Allen\u2019s strengths in the butterfly events make him a prized recruit for the Minutemen, who will lose their top 200-yard butterflyer in senior Hao Luong. Allen\u2019s 1:50.82 200-yard fly is only a half second off of Luong\u2019s top time from last season. Allen also adds a 49.69 100-yard fly to his arsenal, which would have been the fastest time at UMass last season.<\/p>\n

In the IM races, Allen finds himself in UMass\u2019s top ten in the 200-yard and 400-yard IM. His 1:56.35 200 IM ranks 10th<\/sup> and his 4:05.56 400 ranks fourth. Allen also provides a serviceable 47.09 100-yard free, which could come in handy for relays.<\/p>\n

In long course, Allen\u2019s times stand at 58.09 in the 100-meter fly, 2:10.87 in the 200-meter fly, 2:13.53 in the 200-meter IM, and 4:47.77 400-meter IM.<\/p>\n
