Moses had also set the world record in the morning with a 58.05, breaking Jeremy Linn's 50 meter American record with a 26.96 on the split. He said he benefited from going out smoother in finals, though his first 50 was still a 26.99.
\n "After prelims I sat down with my coach and said I needed to slow down the tempo a little, keep my focus more," he said. "In finals I didn't push the first 50 as much. I had a lot left coming home — that's what did it on the last 15 meters."
\n Auburn junior Dave Denniston was also under the previous World Record, finishing second in 58.68. Tennessee sophomore Jeremy McDonnell was third in 59.37, Southern Cal junior Ryosuke Imai of Japan was fourth in 59.72, Auburn's Patrick Calhoun was fifth in 1:00.22, Texas senior Russell Chozick was sixth in 1:00.40, Cal senior Steve Messner was seventh in 1:01.13 and Arizona State junior Otto Hinks was eighth in 1:02.73. Stanford junior Anthony Robinson won the B final in 59.91.<\/p>\n
