ATHENS, Georgia, January 14. THE Georgia swimming and diving teams completed their regular-season home schedule by splitting with Texas on Saturday at Gabrielsen Natatorium. <\/p>\n
The No. 6 Lady Bulldogs beat No. 12 Texas 169-131, while the ninth-ranked Bulldogs fell to No.1 Texas 161-135. The Lady Bulldogs are now 8-1 overall and their ran their home win streak to 57, dating back to the 1995-96 season. The Bulldogs dropped their first decision of the season and are now 11-1. <\/p>\n
"It was a good day," Georgia head coach Jack Bauerle said. "The kids made their best effort. We swam really well for swimming against such a great team." <\/p>\n
"We dove pretty well today," Georgia head diving coach Dan Laak said. "I'm happy the seniors dove so well at their last home meet. We still have three weeks until the conference meet so we'll improve even more before then."<\/p>\n
Before the meet, Bauerle and Texas men's coach Eddie Reese were the center of attention on deck. Bauerle (women) and Reese (men) will coach the 2008 United States Olympic teams in China. Also before the meet, the members of Georgia's senior class were recognized.<\/p>\n
The Lady Bulldogs opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay. The team of Aleksandra Putra, Kelly McNichols, Lisa Caprioglio and Kara Lynn Joyce touched in a time of 1:42.48. <\/p>\n
Joyce won both the 50 and 100 freestyle races, touching in times of 23.11 and 50.38 respectively. In the 1,000 and 500 free, Claire Maust placed first with times of 9:56.61 and 4:48.88. <\/p>\n
Anna Miller took top honors in the 200 free with a time of 1:49.31. Putra won the 200 back in 1:58.51. The 400 freestyle relay team of Cole, Miller, McNichols and Joyce won their last event in a time of 3:22.05.<\/p>\n
Sebastien Rouault paced the Bulldogs with three victories. He won the 1,000 free in 9:14.63, the 500 free in 4:24.41 and the 400 IM in 3:55.10. <\/p>\n
In the 50 free, Cameron Hollinger touched first with a time of 20.27. Neil Versfeld won the 200 breast in 1:58.47. Genya Gouzeev placed first in both the 3- and 1-meter springboards with scores of 351.37 and 349.72 respectively. The 200 free relay team of Hollinger, Michael Cellini, Gil Stovall and Joe Smutz won with a time of 1:21.48.<\/p>\n
