It took until the fifth day of competition for someone \u2013 Samaniego in the 50-meter back and Ricardo David Vargas Jacobo in the 800-meter free \u2013 to finally set a new record. On the final night of competition, Samaniego and others were chasing down more records and Pan American qualifying times.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight, Samaniego just missed breaking Miguel Robles\u2019s 100-meter back record by 0.02. His 56.47 grabbed him the top spot in the event with Ezequiel Trujillo Aviles behind him in a 57.21. Horus Brise\u00f1o Ramirez wound up third in 57.36.<\/p>\n<p>Maria Fernanda Gonzalez Ramirez blistered a 1:01.78 to win the women\u2019s 100-meter backstroke and qualify for the Pan American Games. Estela Davis Ortiz also notched a Pan Am qualifying time while finishing second in 1:03.11. Andrea Garcia Avendano moved up one spot to finish third in 1:04.91.<\/p>\n<p>Liliana Iba\u00f1ez Lopez popped off a 25.83 to take gold in the women\u2019s 50-meter free. Lopez missed her own national record by just over three tenths of a second. Natasha Gvakharia Mgebrishvi clocked a 26.65 to get second, while Lesli Diane Inurriaga Ochoa took third in 27.11. Lopez was the lone Pan Am qualifier in the event.<\/p>\n<p>Alejandro Escudero Alvarez (23.31) out touched Daniel Zabdiel Ramirez Carranza (23.32) by the slimmest of margins to win the men\u2019s 50-meter free. Jorge Andres Iga Cesar improved on his prelims time to get third in 23.57.<\/p>\n<p>In the women\u2019s 400-meter IM, Natalia Jaspeado Becerra claimed the top spot in 4:51.20 over Monika Gonzalez Hermosillo (4:52.66). Georgina Gonzalez Garcia retained her third place seed with a 4:55.23. All three swimmers and fourth place finisher Ayum\u00ed Macias Alba qualified for Pan Ams.<\/p>\n<p>Juan Manuel Del Pi\u00f1o Salas closed out the meet by winning the men\u2019s 400-meter IM in 4:26.12. Julio Andres Olvera Alejos gutted out a 4:29.98 to take second. Ricardo David Vargas Jacobo swam a 4:30.72 to round out the top three.
