It took until the fifth day of Mexican Nationals for a national record to finally fall, although there have been a fair share of close calls. Jacobo\u2019s swim got the ball rolling in Nuevo Le\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>His 8:06.26 ended Arturo Perez Vertti\u2019s two-year hold on the record with an 8:06.57. Vertti finished behind Jacobo in 8:06.68, while Daniel Delgadillo Faisal wound up a distant third in 8:15.15.<\/p>\n<p>Another national record fell in the men\u2019s 50-meter back. Daniel Torres Samaniego busted out a 26.48 to beat Anival Rodriguez Zamores\u2019s record set last year. Horus Brise\u00f1o Ramirez moved up a spot to grab second in 26.80. Luis Soto Ramirez and Jorge Andres Iga Cesar tied for third with a 26.94.<\/p>\n<p>Montserrat Ortu\u00f1o Clapera led an extraordinarily tight top three in the women\u2019s 800-meter free. Her 8:44.05 edged Natalia Jaspeado Becerra, who swam an 8:44.56 to place second. Ayumii Macias Alba controlled the race for the first 600 meters until she fell behind and ended up third in 8:44.58. All three qualified for the Pan American Games.<\/p>\n<p>Maria Fernanda Gonzalez Ramirez blazed a 28.85 to win the women\u2019s 50-meter back. She missed her own national record by less than a tenth of a second. Estela Davis Ortiz came in second in 29.95, while Andrea Garvia Avendano finished third in 30.58.<\/p>\n<p>Diana Luna Sanchez blew away the women\u2019s 200-meter fly, winning in 2:13.24. Her strong back half propelled her to a comfortable victory and a Pan Am qualifying time. Laura Sofia Arroyo Cuara managed to move up five places to get second in a 2:18.18. Maria Jose Mata Cocco finished right behind her with a 2:18.57.<\/p>\n<p>After a string of victories, Long Gutierrez continued his streak in the men\u2019s 200-meter butterfly. The Cal swimmer posted a 2:00.50, which is yet another Pan Am qualifying time.
