{"id":132694,"date":"2015-04-26T09:26:46","date_gmt":"2015-04-26T16:26:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=132694"},"modified":"2015-04-26T09:39:49","modified_gmt":"2015-04-26T16:39:49","slug":"alex-meyer-defends-open-water-5k-national-title","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/alex-meyer-defends-open-water-5k-national-title\/","title":{"rendered":"Alex Meyer Defends Open Water 5K National Title"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Alex Meyer, now swimming for Tennessee Aquatics, led a Tennessee 1-2 in the men&#8217;s 5K open water event at the 2015 Open Water Nationals held at Miromar Lakes in Florida.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s Meyer&#8217;s second win in the event, having won a year ago.<\/p>\n<p>Meyer snagged the victory today in 57:43.94 after taking third in the 10K event behind\u00a0Northwestern&#8217;s Jordan Wilimovsky and Club Wolverine&#8217;s Sean Ryan. Meyer missed out on second place during the 10K in a photo finish with Ryan by six one-thousandths of a second.<\/p>\n<p>Tennessee&#8217;s David Heron placed second today in the 5K with a time of 57:44.229, while NCAP&#8217;s Andrew Gemmell finished just outside the top two with a 57:44.393.<\/p>\n<p>Meyer clinched a berth on the World Championship roster with the win.<\/p>\n<p>Florida&#8217;s Arthur Frayler toko fourth in 57:48.610 with North Carolina&#8217;s Chip Peterson rounding out the top five in 57:49.247.<\/p>\n<p>Saint Petersburg&#8217;s Robert Finke was the youngest top finisher as the 15-year-old swam to seventh in 57:51.006.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/results\/2015-usa-swimming-open-water-nationals-full-results\/open-water\/2015\/April\/24\" target=\"_blank\">2015 USA Swimming
