OXFORD, Ohio, January 12. EXTENDING its streak of Mid-American Conference dual meet wins to 44, the Miami University women's swimming and diving team (6-0; 5-0 MAC) downed the Toledo Rockets, 189-107, Friday night at the Nixon Aquatic Center. In a dominating performance, the still unbeaten RedHawks placed first in 12 of the 16 events and had three different swimmers win multiple events.<\/p>\n
Sophomores Allison Stevens and Malarie Schmidt and senior Ashley Seymour each won two events for the RedHawks, as Miami cruised to an 82-point victory in its first meet after the holiday break. Showing no signs of rust after more than a six-week break from dual meet competition, Miami placed the top two swimmers in five events and the top three swimmers in three events. The RedHawks won all five freestyle events and also swept both breaststroke and butterfly events in their convincing win.<\/p>\n
Miami kicked off the dual meet by winning the 400 medley relay, with its "A" team clocking in with a first-place time of 3:53.41. The victory was the first of three straight wins for the RedHawks, as sophomore Jenn Flaherty and Stevens followed with wins in the 1,000 freestyle (10:17.51) and 200 freestyle (1:53.54), respectively.<\/p>\n
After a Toledo victory in the 100 backstroke, Miami again ripped off wins in three straight events, starting with freshman Karen Frazier's first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke. The two-time MAC swimmer of the week clocked in with a first-place time of 1:05.45. Following Frazier's win, Seymour won her first event of the meet with a first-place time in the 200 butterfly (2:06.04) and senior Margaret Patrick placed first in the 50 freestyle (24.05). <\/p>\n
Toledo registered its second win of the meet in the 1-meter dive, but Miami finished strong, winning six of the final eight events to close out its dual meet victory. Following the Rockets' victory in the 1-meter dive, Miami won five consecutive events, beginning with back-to-back wins from Stevens and Schmidt in the 100 freestyle (53.34) and 200 backstroke (2:06.14), respectively.<\/p>\n
Bezier then added a first-place time in the 200 breaststroke (2:23.67) before Seymour posted a victory in the 500 freestyle (5:00.94) and junior Kathryn Stephens notched a win in the 100 butterfly (57.03).<\/p>\n
Miami's final win of the meet was Schmidt's first-place showing in the 200 individual medley (2:07.54).<\/p>\n
Seeking to extend its dual-meet winning streak to 11, which dates back to last season, Miami travels to Cincinnati Tuesday for a non-conference meet with its local rival. The RedHawks and Bearcats hit the pool at 4 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
