COLUMBUS, Ohio, January 12. THE women of Northwestern defeated Marshall, 150-87, Friday night in a dual meet also featuring Ohio State. Several Wildcats won events outside of their normal specialties.<\/p>\n
While all three schools swam in the meet, the Wildcats' score only was compared to the Herd's. Northwestern and Ohio State will swim against each other at 1 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 13.<\/p>\n
The win improves the Wildcats' dual-meet record on the year to 2-5. All five of NU's losses have come to teams that have been ranked in the top-25 at some point this season.<\/p>\n
Northwestern kicked off the action with a win in the 400 medley relay. Andrea Hupman (Lawrenceville, Ga.\/Brookwood), Jessie Bailis (Omaha, Neb.\/Millard North), Katie Braun (Edina, Minn.\/Edina) and Emily Wong (Nepean, Ontario\/St. Joseph's) comprised the relay that finished in 3:49.11.<\/p>\n
Freshman Jenn Kocsis (Omaha, Neb.\/Marian) then captured the 1,000 free with a time of 10:07.03. Wong made it two event wins in a row for the 'Cats with a 1:49.34 NCAA 'B' cut to finish on top in the 200 free. The time was Wong's best of the season.<\/p>\n
Bailis followed with a win in the 50 free, taking the title with a 24.05. Freshman Kassia Shishkoff (Raleigh, N.C.\/St. David's School) — normally a distance freestyler — was third with a 24.57.<\/p>\n
Freshmen Rachel Rys (Goleta, Calif.\/Dos Pueblos) and Genny Szymanski (Haines, Alaska\/Haines) were second and third in the 200 IM, with Rys swimming a 2:09.49 and Szymanski turning in a 2:09.98. <\/p>\n
Rys turned around and won the 100 fly with a 56.98, while classmate Stacy Congdon (Windermere, Fla.\/Lake Highland) was third in the race with a 58.56.<\/p>\n
Distance freestylers Shishkoff and Kocsis finished 1-2 in the 100 free, with Shishkoff winning the race in 52.34 and Kocsis taking second with a 53.30. Butterflyer Braun was fourth for the 'Cats with a 53.45.<\/p>\n
Sara White-Delehoy (Kent, Wash.\/Kentlake) was Northwestern's top finisher in the 100 back, placing third with a 1:01.58.<\/p>\n
Sprinters Hupman and Wong joined backstroker Szymanski to sweep the top three spots in the 500 free. Hupman was first with a 5:00.41, Wong was second with a 5:01.05 and Szymanski was third with a 5:08.98.<\/p>\n
Hayley Fry (Marion, Iowa\/Linn-Mar) had the fastest time in the 100 breast, finishing with a 1:05.07. Jill Forster (Centerville, Ohio\/Centerville) earned second-place points with a 1:09.10 for the 'Cats.<\/p>\n
The Wildcats closed the meet with the second-fastest time in the 400 free relay, getting a 3:32.43 from Bailis, Kocsis, Congdon and Hupman.<\/p>\n
In diving action, Beth Campbell (Burr Ridge, Ill.\/Fenwick) put up Northwestern's top finish with a third-place, 227.50 effort on the 1-meter board.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
