{"id":132187,"date":"2015-04-18T16:28:45","date_gmt":"2015-04-18T23:28:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=132187"},"modified":"2015-04-18T16:28:45","modified_gmt":"2015-04-18T23:28:45","slug":"michael-phelps-ready-for-challenging-200-im-100-free-double-in-mesa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/michael-phelps-ready-for-challenging-200-im-100-free-double-in-mesa\/","title":{"rendered":"Michael Phelps Ready For Challenging 200 IM-100 Free Double In Mesa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Michael Phelps didn\u2019t compete Friday night at the Arena Pro Swim Series in Mesa, Ariz., which should make him fresh for a tough session tonight in which he will swim the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle within a 20-minute time span.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with media after his prelims swims that qualified him for both championship finals, Phelps admitted that he\u2019ll experience pain in both races but each will be an indicator of his training level at this point in the season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel so much better, in much better physical shape now than I ever have,\u201d he said. \u201cI just don\u2019t know how to race. Tonight\u2019s going to be a big challenge. If I can get up and do two decent performances tonight, then I won\u2019t be worried.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The double will be a part of Phelps\u2019 reintroduction to racing, which he wasn\u2019t able to do during his six-month suspension by USA Swimming after his DUI arrest in late September. Phelps, now 29, knows his body doesn\u2019t recover as quickly from a tough race as it did in 2008, the year when his body was arguably at its peak.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTonight the lactic acid will be pretty high,\u201d Phelps said. \u201cWhatever happens, that\u2019s what it is. (I will) try not to be too hard on myself, and learn as much as I can from this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2hPFHpSRg2U\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>After the interview, Phelps spent time mingling with young fans, signing various items before leaving the venue to rest for tonight\u2019s finals.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Gf4En7eG-NU\" frameborder=\"0\"
