MELBOURNE, Australia, January 7. WHILE the women battled in assorted events, the men concentrated on the back and fly sprints during the fourth day of competition at the Victorian Long Course Championships held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Center.<\/p>\n
Women's 800 Freestyle<\/b>
\n17-year-old Kristen Wilson cruised to victory in the distance event with a time of 8:56.56, while 16-year-old Laura Harney took second in 9:12.48. 14-year-old Brianna Jacobson nabbed third in 9:37.36. Wilson kept Harney in her hip pocket, only leading by three seconds at the halfway mark, before dropping the hammer in the back half to snare the big win.<\/p>\n
Women's 100 Breaststroke<\/b>
\nSarah Katsoulis pocketed gold in 1:09.54, while 13-year-old Maya Hamano of Japan edged Chelsea Carpenter for second, 1:12.25 \u2013 1:12.94. Katsoulis went out in 33.20 to take a one-second advantage before closing out the race.<\/p>\n
Women's 200 IM<\/b>
\nTalia Goddard came back from a one-second deficit after the backstroke leg to post the top time of 2:19.05. Kelly Stubbins placed second in 2:20.44 after leading Goddard at the 100-meter mark, while Sarah Katsoulis rounded out the top three in 2:21.26.<\/p>\n
Men's 50 Backstroke<\/b>
\nDaniel Blackborrow held off teammate Ryan Nolan, 26.66 \u2013 27.07, to win the one-lap back, while Matt Armfield took third in 27.18.<\/p>\n
Men's 50 Butterfly<\/b>
\nIn another sprint event for the men, Jason Cohen hit the wall in 24.65, while Ryan Nolan placed runner-up again with a 25.40. 17-year-old Thanasi Solomidis wound up third in 25.74.<\/p>\n
Multi-Disability<\/b>
\nSarah Bowen won the women's 50 breast in 48.91, while Ellie Cole touched first in the women's 100 fly in 1:20.25. For the men, Alex Hadley won the 100 free in 1:10.21, while Franz White took the 50 fly in 33.19.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
