MIAMI, Florida, January 6. THE University of Iowa men and women's swimming team competed at the all relay event Florida International Invite Saturday morning. The men came out victorious with 142 points, and the women came in second at 128 points. The invitational win is the first for the men's program since they took first at the 1998 Iowa Invitational. This was the best tournament finish for the women since a second place finish at the 2002 Notre Dame Invitational.<\/p>\n
The men collected wins in the 500 freestyle relay and the 200 butterfly relay. The team of Brad Jones, Seth Tweedy, Brian Farris and Nick Divan won the 500 free relay in 4:12.91. The 200 fly relay crown was taken by the team of James Dragon, Nate Keeling, Seth Wessels, and Josh Schubert in 1:35.73. The Hawkeyes placed second in the 400 medley, 200 breast, 400 free, 200 back and 400 medley relays; the 200 free relay team finished third.<\/p>\n
The women's 200 free relay team of Christine Kuczek, Julie deBruin, Emmy Haeger, and Robin Samples was the only Hawkeye team to place first with 1:38.52. The Hawkeyes placed no worse than second in the other seven events.<\/p>\n
The Hawkeyes will remain in Miami until January 13 for the remainder of their winter training trip. They will next compete the weekend of January 19-20, which will be their final regular season meets. On Friday, the 19th, Iowa will entertain Western Illinois at the UI Fieldhouse Pool. On Saturday, the 20th, the women will host Illinois and the men take on Ohio State at the Fieldhouse Pool. Friday night's meet will be at 5 p.m., with Saturday's meet beginning at 11 a.m. Both meets are free to the public.<\/p>\n
