MELBOURNE, Australia, January 6. DURING the third day of swimming at the Victorian Long Course Championships held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Center, Danni Miatke captured a pair of gold medals with wins in the 100 free and 50 back.<\/p>\n
Women's 100 Freestyle<\/b>
\nDanni Miatke won her first of two gold medals on the day with a time of 55.52 in the 100 free. She pushed out to a half-second lead over second-place finisher Kelly Stubbins (55.97) at the 50-meter mark before holding onto the advantage for the win. Alanna Tanner finished third in 58.20.<\/p>\n
Women's 400 Freestyle<\/b>
\n15-year-old Ellese Zalewski dominated the field in the middle-distance free event with a time of 4:13.80, while 17-year-old Kristen Wilson placed second in 4:19.23. Kelly Stubbins pocketed her second medal in as many events with a third-place 4:20.20. Zalewski back-halfed the race after holding only a second lead at the 200-meter mark.<\/p>\n
Women's 200 Backstroke<\/b>
\n13-year-old Yuka Kawayoke led a youth movement in the 200 back with a triumph in 2:17.84. 17-year-old Kristen Wilson finished second in 2:19.12, while 15-year-old Tiffany Papaemanouil grabbed third in 2:21.08.<\/p>\n
Women's 50 Butterfly<\/b>
\nDanni Miatke claimed her second gold of the day by touching in 26.87 in the sprint back. 17-year-old Liu Zige of China took second in 28.36, while Alanna Tanner placed third in 28.59.<\/p>\n
Men's 50 Freestyle<\/b>
\nCameron Prosser missed his personal-best by a scant .01 seconds with a first-place time of 22.80, while Andrew Dyson finished second in 23.57. Lloyd Townsing rounded out the podium in 23.65.<\/p>\n
"I was a bit disappointed with my swims at the recent (Australian team) trials in Brisbane so to be so close to my best while in heavy training is a good sign," Prosser said.<\/p>\n
Men's 400 Freestyle<\/b>
\nPatrick Murphy crushed the competition in the 400 free with a time of 3:55.83 compared to his closest opponent, Riley Schmidt's 4:03.44. Ken Welsh closed out the top three in 4:04.35.<\/p>\n
"To come away with my third fastest time for the 400metres while in hard training is a good sign and helps to build your confidence leading into the World Championships," Murphy said.<\/p>\n
Men's 800 Freestyle<\/b>
\nRiley Schmidt bounced back from the 400 free loss to win the 800 free going away in 8:26.42. 16-year-old Ian McClymont finished second in 8:40.58, while 15-year-old Sam Sheppard placed third in 8:43.37.<\/p>\n
Men's 200 Breaststroke<\/b>
\nIn what would be the most exciting finish of the third day of competition, Bryan Luca touched out 14-year-old Ryosuke Goto of Japan, 2:21.02 \u2013 2:21.11, to win the four-lap breaststroke. Meanwhile, 15-year-old Jeremy Meyer took third in 2:24.03.<\/p>\n
Men's 200 IM<\/b>
\nSam Ashby triumphed in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.01, while 16-year-old Jeremy Saunders hit the wall second in 2:10.04. 17-year-old Rowan Sonsie earned bronze in 2:12.62.<\/p>\n
Multi-Disability Events<\/b>
\n15-year-old Brittany Mathie scored a victory in the women's 50 free with a time of 30.34, while 17-year-old Tarryn McGaw continued her incredible meet with a 100 back win in 1:16.52.
