BOCA RATON, Florida, January 3. THE Clemson men's and women's Swimming teams came out victorious on their training trip meet Wednesday from the FAU Pool in Boca Raton, Fla. The Lady Tigers were led by Michelle Parkhurst who totaled three wins as Clemson defeated Florida Atlantic 105-80, Missouri State 138-47, and Rice 99-70. The Lady Tigers are now 6-4 (2-3 ACC) on the season. Attila Ruszka picked up two wins and a second place to lead the Clemson men past Florida Atlantic 139-46 and past Missouri State 126-59. The men's team is now 6-2 (2-2 ACC). <\/p>\n
The Lady Tigers started off the meet by finishing second and third in the first two events. The 200 medley relay team of Mary Paulsen, Katrina Obas, Kate Hicks, and Lauren Sindall touched the wall in second place with a time of 1:49.88. They were closely followed by the relay of Casey Kroll, Jill Allen, Sarah Porri, and Caitlin Seed. Sophomores Cassy LaRussa (10:18.37) and Summer O'Donnell (10:25.70) teamed up in the next event to claim silver and bronze. Clemson then took the next two events as Michelle Parkhurst (1:53.34) won the 200 freestyle, and Rachel Regone (24.07) took the 50 freestyle title. Regone was backed by Sindall (24.35) and senior Kallie Deters (24.40) as the Lady Tigers swept the top three spots. Katrina Obas was the top Lady Tiger finisher in the 200 IM, as she came in with a time of 2:10.28 to place second. Regone again led the Clemson sprinters, this time in the 100 freestyle, as she finished second with a time of 52.44. Parkhurst (58.58) took her second win of the day in the 100 backstroke, and was followed by Ashley Clay (59.82) who finished second. Alexandra Barsanti (1:06.53) finished second in the 100 breaststroke, ahead of teammate Katrina Obas (1:07.46) who placed third. The Lady Tigers closed out the meet by winning the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Sindall, Parkhurst, Toni Kroll, and Deters touched out the relay from Rice by just .01. <\/p>\n
On the men's side, Clemson left no doubt as they took victories in nine of the 11 events. The 200 medley relay of Joel Johnson, Andy Bergren, Jason Chatlosh, and Brian Regone won the event with a time of 1:34.32, while the team of Jay Crout, Attila Ruszka, Adam Farnham, and Mark Vahle finished second (1:34.44). Sean Geary won the 1000 freestyle (9:45.99) before the Tigers could sweep the top three spots in the 200 freestyle. Dan Mengering (1:44.12) finished first, while Brett MacLennan (1:44.42) and Bryce Herrington (1:45.43) placed second and third, respectively. Mark Vahle (20.79) blew away the field in the 50 freestyle, winning the event by nearly a full second. Attila Ruszka, Matt Angelini, and Andy Bergren swept 1-2-3 in the 200 IM after Vahle's victory. In the next event, the 100 butterfly, newcomers Jason Chatlosh (51.30) took first, and Adam Farnham (51.80) finished third. Crout (52.06) and Johnson (52.46) dominated the 100 backstroke field, and then watched freshman Matt Angelini pick up his first career victory in the 500 freestyle (4:41.63).
