Thomas<\/p>\n<p>In a pair of items that rocked the swimming community, Ian Thorpe decided to call it a career at the age of 24.  The nine-time Olympic medalist and 10-time world titlist called it quits after a year-long internal battle over whether he had the drive to remain in the sport when he really had no other obstacles to overcome.<\/p>\n<p>&#8729; <a href=http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/lane9\/news\/12983.asp> Manaudou Lowers World Record in Short Course 400 Free &#8212; December 9, 2006 <\/a><\/p>\n<p>The last <font color=red>Flash!<\/font> tagged item of the year belonged to Laure Manaudou.
