IN our second day of looking back with SwimmingWorldMagazine.com&#39;s Rewind, we check out the stories from March and April.<\/p>\n<p>World records dropped like flies as the Commonwealth Games and World Short Course Championships took place.  Additionally, the domino effect in club swimming began as Dave Salo left Irvine Novaquatics for the University of Southern California.<\/p>\n<p>&#8729; <a href=http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/lane9\/news\/11056.asp> Jones Smashes 100 Breaststroke World Record with an Amazing 1:05.09 &#8212; March 20, 2006 <\/a> by Stephen J. Thomas<\/p>\n<p>Leisel Jones kept up an amazing year that led her to <i>Swimming World Magazine<\/i> Female Swimmer of the Year honors by dropping .62 seconds off her 100 breast world record.  Her swim at the Commonwealth Games lowered the standard to 1:05.09.<\/p>\n<p>&#8729; <a href=http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/lane9\/news\/11061.asp> Aussie Women Set World Record in Medley Relay &#8212; March 21, 2006 <\/a> by Stephen J. Thomas<\/p>\n<p>The Aussies kept the ball rolling at the Commonwealth Games when Sophie Edington, Jones, Jessicah Schipper and Libby Lenton powered to a 400 medley world record with a time of 3:56.30.  That time knocked more than a second off the previous record set by Australia at the 2004 Athens Games.<\/p>\n<p>&#8729; <a href=http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/lane9\/news\/11183.asp> Lochte, Aussie Women Light Up World Short Course Champs with Global Standards &#8212; April 7, 2006 <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Short course meter world records were in the crosshairs as April started up with the World Short Course Championships in Shanghai, China.  Ryan Lochte opened an incredible meet with a 200 IM global standard of 1:53.31, while the Aussie contingent of Tay Zimmer, Jade Edmistone, Schipper and Lenton clocked a 3:51.84 to take down the world record in the 400 medley relay.<\/p>\n<p>&#8729; <a href=http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/lane9\/news\/11187.asp> Netherlands Women Set 400 Free Relay World Record at Short Course Champs &#8212; April 8, 2006 <\/a><\/p>\n<p>The following day, the Dutch quartet of Inge Dekker, Hinkelien Schreuder, Chantal Groot and Marleen Veldhuis touched in 3:33.32 to surpass the previous 400 free relay record of 3:34.55 established by China in 1997.<\/p>\n<p>&#8729; <a href=http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/lane9\/news\/11189.asp> Lochte Blasts Two World Records as World Short Course Champs Conclude &#8212; April 9, 2006<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lochte captured his second and third world records at the meet with top times in the 100 and 200 backstroke.  In the 200 back, Lochte touched in 1:49.05 before posting the first sub-59 100 back in history with a 49.99 leadoff split for the U.S. 400 medley relay.<\/p>\n<p>&#8729; <a href=http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/lane9\/news\/11242.asp> Dave Salo is Appointed Head Coach at USC &#8212; April 21, 2006 <\/a> by Phillip Whitten<\/p>\n<p>Dave Salo replaced Mark Schubert at the helm of the University of Southern California&#39;s swim teams after Schubert accepted the National Team Head Coach and General Manager position of USA Swimming.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PHOENIX, Arizona, December 24.
