OVER the past year, there have been a lot of stories that have caught SwimmingWorldMagazine.com&#39;s eye and demanded special attention.  Our readers are familiar with the <font color=red>Flash!<\/font> tag we attach to each of these high-interest articles.<\/p>\n<p>In our latest Rewind piece, we&#39;re turning back the clocks once again to reminisce about the great stories of this past year.  First up are the items <font color=red>Flash!<\/font> tagged in January and February:<\/p>\n<p>&#8729; <a href=http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/lane9\/news\/10540.asp> Olympian Eric Namesnik in Critical Condition Following Auto Accident (Updated) &#8212; January 10, 2006 <\/a> by Phillip Whitten<\/p>\n<p>Our first <font color=red>Flash!<\/font> story of the year started off on a down note.  Two-time Olympian Eric Namesnik, the head coach of the Wolverine Aquatics Swim Club, was in a car crash in early January.  Unfortunately, the news did not get any better as Namesnik passed away the day after this report.<\/p>\n<p>&#8729; <a href=http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/lane9\/news\/10736.asp> Edmistone Lowers Her World Record for 50 Breaststroke! &#8212; January 30, 2006 <\/a> by Stephen J. Thomas<\/p>\n<p>At the end of January, Jade Edmistone provided the swimming community its first world record of the calendar year as well as of the Australia Commonwealth Games Trials by lowering her 50 breast global standard in prelims.<\/p>\n<p>&#8729; <a href=http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/lane9\/news\/10754.asp> Lenton Regains World Record in the 100 Freestyle &#8212; January 31, 2006 <\/a> by Stephen J. Thomas<\/p>\n<p>The following day at the Australia Commonwealth Games Trials, Libby Lenton grabbed the 100 free world record back from Jodie Henry by touching in 53.42.<\/p>\n<p>&#8729; <a href=http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/lane9\/news\/10762.asp> Lethal Leisel Slashes 1.18 Seconds Off Her 200 Breaststroke WR &#8212; February 1, 2006 <\/a> by Stephen J. Thomas<\/p>\n<p>Crossing over into February at the Australia Commonwealth Games Trials, Leisel Jones gave the world its third global standard of the meet and of the year.  At the meet, Jones cut more than a second off her 200 breast world record with a time of 2:20.54.<\/p>\n<p>&#8729; <a href=http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/lane9\/news\/10776.asp> Leisel Jones Blasts 1:05.71 to Destroy the 100 Breaststroke World Record &#8212; February 3, 2006 <\/a> by Stephen J. Thomas<\/p>\n<p>Two days later, Jones returned to slash nearly a half-second off American Jessica Hardy&#39;s 100 breast world record by clocking a time of 1:05.71 at the Australia Commonwealth Games Trials.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PHOENIX, Arizona, December 23.
