Sprint siblings Bronte and Cate Campbell will get the chance to race for a place on the FINA World Championship team in the women\u2019s 100m freestyle tonight at the 2015 Hancock Prospecting Australian Swimming Championships.<\/p>\n

With five swimmers under the 54-second-mark, the final will be world class and could see Bronte, the fastest qualifier from the semi-finals, steal the win from reigning World Champion Cate.<\/p>\n

Fellow finalists Emma McKeon, Brittany Elmslie and Melanie Wright will also challenge for a place on the podium after finishing just outside the Campbell\u2019s pace last night.<\/p>\n

With the dust barely settled on last night\u2019s men\u2019s 100m freestyle final, the sprinters were back in action this morning, contesting the men\u2019s 50m free heats on day six at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre.<\/p>\n

The 100m freestyle champion from last night Cameron McEvoy qualified fastest for this evening\u2019s semi-finals, swimming the one-lap, splash and dash in 22.38 seconds.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m happy with the time \u2013 backing up from last night,\u201d McEvoy said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s hard to come off such a high from last night – I hit a trough and feel really flat in the water. It\u2019s hard to step up again from that trough and bring that up for a 50 freestyle. But lucky it\u2019s only one lap.\u201d<\/p>\n

Silver medallist from the 100, James Magnussen was just behind in 22.46 with Swiss visitor Erik Van Dooren qualifying third fastest in 22.62. Nineteen-year-old Blake Jones from Southport Olympic was fourth fastest in 22.70 with Matthew Abood rounding out the top five qualifiers in 22.77.<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 100m Freestyle Multi Class<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sporting her trademark bright pink hair, 20-year-old Taylor Corry (S14) has qualified in top spot for the finals of the women\u2019s 100m freestyle Multi Class in a time of 1:02.62. Paralympian Jacqui Freney (S7) was the second ranked qualifier in 1:10.20 and 16-year-old Maddison Elliott (S8) qualified in third with a time of 1:07.55.<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 100m Freestyle Multi Class<\/strong><\/p>\n

Daniel Fox (S14) continued his run of success, swimming 54.57 to qualify in top spot for tonight\u2019s men\u2019s 100m freestyle Multi Class final. Joshua Alford (S14) from the Tuggeranong Vikings was the second top qualifier in 55.85 with Matthew Levy (S7) ranked third in 1:02.77.<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 50m Butterfly<\/strong><\/p>\n

St Peter\u2019s Western swimmer Brittany Elmslie set the fastest qualifying time in the heats of the women\u2019s 50m butterfly, hitting the wall in 26.71 seconds. The national champion in the 100m fly, Emma McKeon was a fraction off Elmslie\u2019s time with 26.80 with Queenslander Sara-Jean Saal third fastest in 26.89.<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 100m Butterfly<\/strong><\/p>\n

Commonwealth Games and Pan Pacific Championships Jayden Hadler put together a solid 100m butterfly heat to qualify fastest for this evening\u2019s semi-final. His time of 52.63 edged out Ryan Pini of Papua New Guinea and silver medallist from the 200m fly, David Morgan who tied for the equal second in a time of 52.95.<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 200m Backstroke<\/strong><\/p>\n

After being pipped for first place in both the 50 and the 100m backstroke events, Madison Wilson clocked a 2:10.80 in the women\u2019s 200m back heats to progress as the fastest qualifier for tonight\u2019s semi-final. Emily Seebohm (2:12.66) and Mikkayla Sheridan (2:12.80), both from Brothers club in Brisbane, were second and third fastest respectively.<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 800m Freestyle<\/strong>
\nThe heats of the women\u2019s 800m freestyle saw St Peter\u2019s Western swimmer Katie Goldman record the fastest time for the final on Thursday night after taking out her heat in a time of 8:36.06. World Junior Championship representative Kiah Melverton (8:38.20) was second fastest, a touch ahead of the Australian record holder in this event Jessica Ashwood (8:38.27) who will move through ranked third.<\/p>\n
