After watching from the sidelines for four days, it was finally time for the speedy Campbell sisters to dive into action at the 2015 Hancock Prospecting Australian Swimming Championships.<\/p>\n

Commonwealth Games gold and silver medallists in this event respectively, Cate and Bronte Campbell were the fastest qualifiers in the women\u2019s 100m freestyle heats, headlining this morning\u2019s session out at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre.<\/p>\n

Reigning World Champion Cate was the only swimmer to slip under the 54 second mark, clocking 53.50 ahead of Bronte\u2019s 54.15.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been climbing up the walls and driving poor Bronte mad!\u201d Cate said of waiting until Day 5 to get in her first race.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a good swim, I\u2019m pleased to be moving through. That was just the first step in the program this morning. Hopefully I can build on it for tonight and then even more for tomorrow night. The depth of this event keeps growing\u2026I know I am in for a tough race tonight,\u201d Cate said<\/p>\n

Bronte was also impressed with the depth of talent in the sprint events.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s been a great increase in the number of people who are doing this event and are swimming really, really fast times,\u201d Bronte said.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot just at this meet but at meets previously. The competition is a very intense home-grown competition. It\u2019s definitely going to be quick tonight. It\u2019s good to get that first race done, it hurts the most out of any of them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Silver medallist from the 100m backstroke earlier in the meet, Madison Wilson (54.27) demonstrated her versatility moving through as the third fastest Australian qualifier with Melanie Wright (54.50) and Emma McKeon (54.56) also progressing and looking for similar results in tonight\u2019s semi-finals.<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 50m Backstroke Multi Class<\/strong><\/p>\n

Paralympian Maddison Elliott (S8) has qualified in top spot for the final of the women\u2019s 50m backstroke Multi Class with a heat swim of 38.23 seconds. Her Commonwealth Games teammate, 16-year-old Lakeisha Patterson from Kawana Waters was the second ranked qualifier in 38.75 with Ashleigh McConnell, 19, third in 36.11.<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 50m Backstroke Multi Class<\/strong><\/p>\n

After winning the gold medal in the men\u2019s 100m Multi Class backstroke Michael Anderson (S10) has emerged as the top qualifier in the men\u2019s 50m back this morning. The 27-year-old Queenslander swam 28.93 seconds and will be looking for a medal in tonight\u2019s final. Timothy Disken (S9) and Timothy Hodge (S9) were the second and third best qualifiers in 31.06 and 31.34 respectively.<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 200m Backstroke<\/strong><\/p>\n

Commonwealth Games and Pan Pacific Championship representative Mitch Larkin swam a solid 200m backstroke heat to qualify fastest for tonight\u2019s semi-final with a time of 2:00.40. His Australian teammates from 2014, Joshua Beaver and Matson Lawson from Victoria\u2019s TigerSharks will challenge for top spot tonight after moving through in second and third place with 2:00.68 and 2:02.15 respectively.<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 200m Breaststroke<\/strong><\/p>\n

Swimming in the heats of her favoured event, Taylor McKeown has continued to show her strong form in the women\u2019s breaststroke, qualifying fastest from this morning\u2019s 200m heats in 2:28.14. The 20-year-old from Indooroopilly will be looking to take the breaststroke double, having already taken out the 100m earlier in the meet. Olympian Sally Hunter was second fastest in 2:31.63, with McKeown\u2019s Indooroopilly teammate Aisling Scott third fastest in 2:33.06.<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 200m Breaststroke<\/strong><\/p>\n

Junior Pan Pacs representative Matthew Wilson had an impressive swim at his home pool, clocking 2:15.82 to be the fastest qualifier from the men\u2019s 200m breaststroke heats. The 16-year-old from SOPAC was just faster than 2010 Youth Olympian Nicholas Schafer who clocked 2:15.89 in the final heat. Lennard Bremer (2:16.15) Alex Milligan (2:16.55) and Buster Sykes (2:16.79) rounded out the top five qualifiers.<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 200m Freestyle Multi Class<\/strong><\/p>\n

Commonwealth Games gold medallist in this event Daniel Fox (S14) has qualified in top spot for the final of the men\u2019s 200m Multi Class freestyle with a time of 1:58.90. Sixteen-year-old Braedan Jason (S13) from Alexandra Heads has qualified second in 1:58.77, while Mitchell Kilduff (S14) and Brenden Hall (S9) qualified equal third in 2:01.56 and 2:03.51 respectively.<\/p>\n
