IN the fourth day of competition at the New Zealand World Championships Long Course Trials held in Auckland, 17-year-old Annabelle Carey demolished her own New Zealand record in the 100 breast.  Meanwhile, Corney Swanepoel defending his 50 fly title, while 16-year-old Natalie Wiegersma won the 200 IM.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 100 Breaststroke Finals<\/b><br \/>\n17-year-old Annabelle Carey of AquaGym shattered her own New Zealand record in the 100 breaststroke when she clocked a 1:09.26 to snare the title.  The effort also made her the first New Zealand woman to surpass the 1:10 mark.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;It was awesome. I just relaxed tonight. I always knew I had a 1:10 in me and it give me a lot of confidence now,&quot; Carey said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, North Shore&#39;s Katie Bone placed second in 1:13.26, while West Auckland Aquatics&#39; Sarah Vettoretti took bronze in 1:14.12.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 50 Butterfly Finals<\/b><br \/>\nNorth Shore&#39;s Corney Swanepoel defended his 50 fly title with a time of 24.40.  Touching just behind, Matt Thomas of Primo Sundevils garnered silver in 24.84, while North Shore&#39;s Moss Burmester placed third in 24.99.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 200 IM Finals<\/b><br \/>\n16-year-old Natalie Wiegersma of the Spirit of the Southland won her first open national title by stopping the clock in 2:19.91 in the 200 IM.  North Shore&#39;s Ayla Dunlop Barrett placed second in 2:21.97, while 16-year-old Cara Baker of Kiwi West Aquatics finished third in 2:22.53.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 50 Freestyle Semi-Finals<\/b><br \/>\nNorth Shore went 1-2 in the sprint free semis when Elizabeth Coster edged teammate Hannah McLean, 26.57 to 26.60 for the top qualifying spot.  Zoe Baker rounded out the top three with a 26.64.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 100 Freestyle Semi-Finals<\/b><br \/>\nWest Auckland Aquatics swept the top two spots in the men&#39;s 100 free when Mark Herring hit the wall in 51.26 ahead of teammate Michael Jack&#39;s 51.61.  North Shore&#39;s Michael Buck took third in 52.32.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 50 Backstroke Semi-Finals<\/b><br \/>\nNapier Aquahawks&#39; Callum Joll posted the top sprint back time of 26.69, while North Shore&#39;s John Zulch placed second in 27.13.  16-year-old Kurt Bassett of Laser Mt. Eden finished third in 27.44.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 100 Butterfly Semi-Finals<\/b><br \/>\nNorth Shore&#39;s Emma Banks notched the fastest time of the 100 fly by touching in 1:03.15, while 17-year-old Sally Green of Watties Swim City Aquatics took second in 1:04.14.  16-year-old Abby Shaw of AquaGym completed the top three in 1:04.72.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 100 Breaststroke Semi-Finals<\/b><br \/>\nNorth Shore went 1-2-3 in the men&#39;s 100 breast.  Glenn Snyders dominated the field with a personal-best 1:02.55.  Finishing a distant second, Oliver Young hit the wall in 1:05.10, while Dean Kent placed third in 1:05.44.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 50 Backstroke Semi-Finals<\/b><br \/>\nNorth Shore snagged the top two qualifying times when Hannah McLean nipped teammate Elizabeth Coster, 29.31 to 29.47 in the semi-final rounds.  16-year-old Emily Thomas of Comet Swimming took third in 30.34.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Jason Marsteller AUCKLAND, New Zealand, December 15.
