HONOLULU, Hawaii, December 15. NEARING the end of her time as part of SwimmingWorldMagazine.com's "A Day in the Life" series, Northwestern junior Andrea Hupman had an eventful day as related in her sixth installment. Hawaii 5-0 proved its worth by already arresting someone in connection with the van break-in from earlier in the week. When the Wildcats planned on gaining experience from the holiday trip in Hawaii, we're sure they didn't plan on learning how to testify as a few of the swimmers will be in court during the final day of Hupman's blog.<\/p>\n
In other news, Hupman and her team enjoyed a beautiful rainbow in the morning and worked on flip turns in the pool.<\/p>\n
Thursday, December 14, Day 6<\/b>
\nAloha! I can't believe I'm already on Day 6 of these blogs. That means we're about half-way through training trip\u2014the time is flying! And, Christmas is coming even though it really doesn't feel like Christmas in spite of the giant Christmas tree in the hotel lobby. <\/p>\n
We had a bit of a scare this morning: it was drizzling as we drove to the pool. Luckily, the sun came out! Then a double rainbow came out! Even the University of Hawaii swimmers doing dryland on deck were saying it was a "solid rainbow." It was definitely a beautiful sight over the pool for our morning workout. <\/p>\n
In the time between practices, we went shopping in the stores along the Waikiki Beach. And, we saw Santa! He was wearing his red hat, a light jacket, and shorts. We took a picture, of course. We saw more ABC Stores than Starbucks. There were pearls, shells, all kinds of things shiny, and all kinds of things tropical. We did some Christmas shopping and got gifts for our Secret Snowflake gift exchange. <\/p>\n
In other news, the police arrested someone in connection to the break-in from earlier this week. A few of the girls got subpoenas to appear in court tomorrow (luckily their court time is between practices, so they won't have to miss any swimming!). It will be interesting to see what happens. <\/p>\n
Practice this afternoon went pretty well. During warm-up, we did some underwater flip turns to help us work on getting over fast, accelerating through the flip. Flip turns (or just turns in general) are something you can always work on in practice, regardless of the set. We had a variety of sets today, and lots of chances to work on turns. <\/p>\n
