Sarah Sjostrom scorched the women’s 50-meter fly semifinals to kick off the Eindhoven Swim Cup this evening.<\/p>\n
Sjostrom blasted semis with a ridiculously fast time of 24.69. That’s the second fastest time ever, and just the fourth time to break 25 seconds. It nearly broke Sjostrom’s world record of 24.43 set during the 2014 Swedish National Championships.<\/p>\n
All Time 50 Fly<\/strong><\/p>\n[table \u201c\u201d not found \/] Nastja Govejsek qualified second in the 50 fly with a 26.45 with Anna Ntountounaki earning the third seed in 26.81.<\/p>\n Sjostrom followed that up with a Swedish record in the women’s 100-meter back as she broke 1:00 for the first time with a 59.98. That swim broke her previous mark of 1:00.74 set at the 2009 World Championships, and landed her fourth in the world rankings. \u00a0Maaike de Waard placed second in 1:01.77 tonight with Jenny Mensing third in 1:01.84.<\/p>\n Sjostrom returned with a slower 25.59 to win the finale of the women’s 50-meter fly. \u00a0Nastja Govejsek placed second in 26.51 with Elinore de Jong earning third in 27.08<\/p>\n Femke Heemskerk closed out a special meet of her own with a blistering world-best time of 52.69 to win the women’s 100-meter free. \u00a0That performance broke the Dutch record of 52.75 set by Ranomi Kromowidjojo at the 2012 Eindhoven Swim Cup, and moved Heemskerk up to fifth all time in the event.<\/p>\n Kromowidjojo placed second tonight in 53.88 with Maud van der Meer snagging third in 54.85.<\/p>\n
