{"id":130115,"date":"2015-04-02T09:05:33","date_gmt":"2015-04-02T16:05:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=130115"},"modified":"2015-04-02T09:05:33","modified_gmt":"2015-04-02T16:05:33","slug":"peter-berneks-world-best-in-800-free-leads-sizzling-night-at-eindhoven-swim-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/peter-berneks-world-best-in-800-free-leads-sizzling-night-at-eindhoven-swim-cup\/","title":{"rendered":"Peter Bernek&#8217;s World Best in 800 Free Leads Sizzling Night at Eindhoven Swim Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Peter Bernek claimed a world best in the men&#8217;s 800-meter free during day one of the Eindhoven Swim Cup.<\/p>\n<p>Bernek moved to the top of the world rankings in the men&#8217;s 800-meter free with a meet-record time of 7:50.42. \u00a0Pal Joensen had the previous top time with a 7:52.82 from the Danish Open earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>Ferry Weertman took second tonight in 7:53.38 to move to third in the world rankings, while Maarten Brzoskowski placed third tonight in 7:55.51 for fourth in the world rankings.<\/p>\n<p>In the men&#8217;s 100-meter freestyle semifinals, Sebastiaan Verschuren dropped the hammer with a 48.46. \u00a0That swim pushed him to second in the world behind only James Magnussen&#8217;s 48.43. \u00a0Velimir Stjepanovic picked up the second seed in 49.21 with Pieter Timmers qualifying third in 49.72.<\/p>\n<p>Ranomi Kromowidjojo, who already stood third in the world with a 24.38 from semis of the women&#8217;s 50-meter free, edged ahead of that time with a 24.35 to win the finale. \u00a0Only Cate (24.03) and Bronte (24.24) Campbell have been faster.<\/p>\n<p>Femke Heemskerk took second in 24.57 tonight to move to fourth in the world with Esmee Vermuelen winding up third tonight in 25.25.<\/p>\n<p>Zsuzsanna Jakabos vaulted to fourth in the world rankings in the women&#8217;s 200-meter IM with a 2:11.32. \u00a0Only Siobhan Marie O&#8217;Connor (2:10.12), Katinka Hosszu (2:10.36) and Kanako Watanabe (2:10.76) have been faster. \u00a0Stina Gardell claimed second tonight in 2:13.81 with Anja Klinar earning third in 2:14.63.<\/p>\n<p>Boglarka Kapas set a meet record with an 8:30.40 in the women&#8217;s 800-meter free. \u00a0That swim pushed her to eighth in the world rankings. \u00a0Gaja Natlacen (8:41.77) and Spela Perse (8:43.20) finished second and third.<\/p>\n<p>Laszlo Cseh closed out night one with a 23.50 to win the men&#8217;s 50-meter fly. That put him ninth in the world rankings. \u00a0Mathys Goosen touched second in 23.76 with Joeri Verlinden claiming third in 23.88.<\/p>\n<p>Gabor Balog jumped to 11th in the world rankings with a 1:58.97 to win the men&#8217;s 200-meter back. \u00a0Mattias Carlsson touched second in 1:59.82 with Lazar Zlatic taking third in 2:02.61.<\/p>\n<p>Jenny Mensing hit the wall in 2:11.31 to win the women&#8217;s 200-meter back. \u00a0Adel Farkas (2:15.66) and Tessa Vermeulen (2:17.28) finished second and third.<\/p>\n<p>Anna Ntountounaki took home the women&#8217;s 100-meter fly title in 59.41 with Kimberly Buys finishing second in 1:00.10. \u00a0Nastja Govejsek earned third in 1:00.62.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/results\/2015-eindhoven-swim-cup-day-one-day-1\/international-elite\/2015\/April\/2\" target=\"_blank\">2015 Eindhoven Swim Cup, Day One &#8211; Results<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Peter Bernek claimed a world best in the men&#8217;s 800-meter free during day one of the Eindhoven Swim Cup.
