{"id":130049,"date":"2015-03-31T20:22:18","date_gmt":"2015-04-01T03:22:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=130049"},"modified":"2015-03-31T20:22:18","modified_gmt":"2015-04-01T03:22:18","slug":"meghan-small-crushes-national-record-on-night-two-of-ymca-short-course-nationals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/meghan-small-crushes-national-record-on-night-two-of-ymca-short-course-nationals\/","title":{"rendered":"Meghan Small Crushes National Record on Night Two of YMCA Short Course Nationals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GREENSBORO &#8211; York YMCA&#8217;s Meghan Small crushed the YMCA national record in the women&#8217;s 200 back, while the Middle Tyger women and Sarasota men took control of the team standings during the second night of finals at the YMCA Short Course Nationals meet at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.<\/p>\n<p>Small got the second night of finals off to a record-breaking start in the women&#8217;s 200 back, crushing the YMCA national record with a 1:51.74. After losing her 2014 record of 1:54.01 to Middle Tyger&#8217;s Ali Galyer in prelims, Small came back to destroy the mark in finals. Galyer, who clocked a 1:53.91 in prelims, dropped a little more time in finals but finished second in 1:53.76. Waynesboro&#8217;s Remedy Rule rounded out the top three in 1:54.53.<\/p>\n<p>In the men&#8217;s 200 back, Sarasota&#8217;s Austin Katz just missed Steven Zimmerman&#8217;s 2011 record of 1:43.07 with a 1:43.70 in finals. Sean Workman of Edwardsville clocked a 1:44.12 to finish close behind in second, while Sarasota&#8217;s Matthew Garcia got to the wall third in 1:45.67.<\/p>\n<p>After posting a new YMCA national record of 2:10.79 in prelims of the women&#8217;s 200 breast, Middle Tyger&#8217;s Savanna Faulconer couldn&#8217;t quite match her speed from this morning but still had plenty in the tank for a three second victory in finals in 2:11.08. Teammate Jessica Horoman tracked down second in 2:14.91, with Somerset Valley&#8217;s Megan Bull in third at 2:15.12.<\/p>\n<p>Eau Claire&#8217;s Paul DeLakis topped the men&#8217;s 200 breast in 1:58.58, just under a second ahead of Ocean County&#8217;s Jacob Limaldi (1:59.25). Triangle Area&#8217;s Brayden Lauffer rounded out the top three in 2:01.94.<\/p>\n<p>Waynesboro&#8217;s Remedy Rule picked up another top three finish in the women&#8217;s 100 fly, finishing just outside Courtney Weaver&#8217;s YMCA national record of 52.51 with a 52.94. Middle Tyger&#8217;s Katrina Konopka took the race out fast and touched first at the 50 but faded to second with a 53.13. Bath Area&#8217;s Caitlin Tycz placed third in 53.77.<\/p>\n<p>Rock Hill&#8217;s Zachary Piedt flew to victory in the men&#8217;s 100 fly final with a 47.76, only .05 in front of Somerset Hills&#8217; Sebastian Lutz, who stopped the clock at 47.81. Corry&#8217;s Brent Benedict was also in the hunt for the title, finishing third in 48.00.<\/p>\n<p>Middle Tyger&#8217;s foursome of Ali Galyer, Sydney Baker, Jessi Snover and Katrina Konopka earned a narrow .01 victory over York&#8217;s Courtney Harnish, Emily Ilgenfritz, Becca Luft and Meghan Small in the 200 free relay, 1:32.47 to 1:32.48. Triangle Area&#8217;s Haley Bishop, Kelsey Lawton, Olivia Ontjes and Christine Kerr swam a 1:32.72 to finish third.<\/p>\n<p>Jamie Finnegan, Sebastian Lutz, Jackson Crewe and David Hua claimed the men&#8217;s 200 free relay in 1:22.21, just under half a second ahead of Triangle Area&#8217;s Alex Carson, Chris Kohut, Tom Gordon and Seth Maslowski (1:22.70). Countryside rounded out the top three, with Matt Slabe, Kevin George, Grant House and Jack German touching at 1:22.79.<\/p>\n<p>Middle Tyger leads the women&#8217;s team race with 128 points, followed by York (106 points) and Sarasota (76 points). Sarasota leads the men&#8217;s team standings by a sizable margin with 132 points. Westport\/Weston is in second with 61 points, with Triangle Area right behind in third with 58 points.<\/p>\n<p><a
