DOHA, Qatar, December 8. The winner of three gold medals at the Asian Games, South Korea's Tae-Hwan Park showed equal excellence outside of the water after his triumph in the 1,500-meter freestyle. Park dedicated his gold medal in the metric mile to Hyung-Chil Kim, the South Korean equestrian athlete who was killed in a riding accident Thursday.<\/p>\n
Competing in an equestrian event, Kim was killed when his horse missed a jump on a muddy course and crushed his rider. He was the first athlete to die in the 55-year history of the Asian Games. Park, a 17-year-old rising star, won the 200, 400 and 1,500 freestyles and set Asian records in the 200 and 1,500 distances. He won the 400 and 1,500 freestyles at the Pan Pacific Champs over the summer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
