{"id":129528,"date":"2015-03-31T09:14:03","date_gmt":"2015-03-31T16:14:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=129528"},"modified":"2015-03-31T09:14:03","modified_gmt":"2015-03-31T16:14:03","slug":"yauhen-tsurkin-mireia-belmonte-garcia-both-move-to-2nd-in-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/yauhen-tsurkin-mireia-belmonte-garcia-both-move-to-2nd-in-world\/","title":{"rendered":"Yauhen Tsurkin, Mireia Belmonte Garcia Both Move to 2nd in World"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yauhen Tsurkin and Mireia Belmonte Garcia both put up second-ranked swims on the final night of the Spanish Open Spring Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Tsurkin shot to second in the world rankings in the men&#8217;s 50-meter fly with a time of 23.36. \u00a0Only Cesar Cielo has been faster with a 23.28 from earlier this year in Brazil.<\/p>\n<p>Garcia moved up to second in the world in the women&#8217;s 400-meter free with a time of 4:04.99. \u00a0Only Katie Ledecky has been faster with a 4:00.47 at the Austin stop of the Arena Pro Swim Series. \u00a0Melani Costa Schmid finished second in 4:07.52 to grab the top 10 in the world, while Alice Mizzau placed third in 4:12.37 after clocking a prelim 4:11.93.<\/p>\n<p>Konrad Czerniak moved to fifth in the event this year with a 23.43 during prelims before taking second tonight in 23.68. \u00a0Jose Canizares took third tonight in 23.68 for 10th in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Viktoria Zeynep Gunes moved to third in the world in the women&#8217;s 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2:23.47. \u00a0That swim moved her behind Rikke Moller Pedersen (2:21.60) and Kanako Watanabe (2:23.03) and broke Jessica Vall Montero&#8217;s meet record of 2:23.96 from last year.<\/p>\n<p>Montero finished second tonight in 2:24.88 with Victoria Kaminskaya placing third overall in 2:31.37.<\/p>\n<p>Miguel Duran Navia set a Spanish record with a time of 3:49.76 in the men&#8217;s 400-meter free. \u00a0That swim cleared the 2008 record of 3:49.82 set by Marco Rivera Miranda at this meet. \u00a0Duran Navia moved up to 10th in the world with his swim.<\/p>\n<p>Marc Sanchez Torrens took second in 3:52.30, while Arnau Rovira Guillen earned third in 3:54.51.<\/p>\n<p>Svenja Stoffel won the women&#8217;s 50-meter fly tonight in 26.71, while Sasha Touretski touched second in 26.90. \u00a0Ting Wen Quah wound up third in 27.03.<\/p>\n<p>Melquiades Alvarez Caraballo claimed the men&#8217;s 200-meter breast in 2:13.95 with Luca Pfyffer touching second in 2:15.77. \u00a0Joan Puig placed third in 2:16.64.<\/p>\n<p>Mercedes Peris Minguet won the women&#8217;s 100-meter back in 1:01.00 with Marce Duane Da Rocha taking second in 1:01.07 in a close contest. \u00a0Laura Yus Fernandez finished third in 1:02.51.<\/p>\n<p>Juan Miguel Rando Galvez captured the men&#8217;s 100-meter back in 54.51. \u00a0Juan Gutierrez took second in 55.35 with Hugo Oliveira placing third in 55.67.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/results\/2015-spain-spring-championships-day-four-day-4\/international-elite\/2015\/March\/28\" target=\"_blank\">2015 Spain Spring Championships, Day Four &#8211; Results<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yauhen Tsurkin and Mireia Belmonte Garcia both put up second-ranked swims on the final night of the Spanish Open Spring Championships.
