Mireia Belmonte Garcia stole the show at the Spain Open Spring Championships with a pair of victories, each in the top 10 in the world.<\/p>\n

Garcia blasted the top time in the world in the women’s 1500-meter free with a 16:10.63. That time far surpassed the previous best of 16:24.56 set by Leonie Beck. \u00a0Jimena Perez placed second tonight in 16:22.64 for second in the world as well, while Maria Vilas Vidal took third in 16:29.15.<\/p>\n

Garcia doubled up by turning in a swift time of 2:12.80 to win the women’s 200-meter IM. \u00a0That effort moved her up to ninth in the world rankings. \u00a0Zeynep Gunes touched second overall in 2:14.14 with Beatriz Gomez taking third in 2:14.27.<\/p>\n

Marco Orsi became just the fourth man under 49 seconds this year in the men’s 100-meter free. \u00a0Orsi clocked a 48.98 for the win, moving to fourth in the world behind James Magnussen (48.43), Cameron McEvoy (48.76) and Mehdy Metella (48.85). \u00a0Konrad Czerniak joined Orsi under 49 with a fifth-ranked time of 48.99, while Andrey Grechin clocked a third-place effort of 49.15.<\/p>\n

Martin Melconian won the men’s 50-meter breast in 28.12 after moving to seventh in the world rankings with a 27.85 in prelims. \u00a0Ivano Pizzolla finished second in 28.47 with Hector Monteaguido snaring third in 28.53.<\/p>\n
