NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana, December 6. ONLY a handful of swimming and diving teams competed this weekend in the Sun Belt Conference – highlighted by Western Kentucky University men's team. The Hilltoppers picked up two big wins over Atlantic Coast Conference members Duke and Maryland. <\/p>\n
Two notable performers from WKU were juniors Brian Lewis and Robert Wimberly. Their efforts garnered them this week's male swimmer and diver of the week respectively, the league office announced Wednesday. <\/p>\n
Lewis picked up wins over the weekend in the 200 individual medley against Maryland and also the 200 medley and 200 butterfly against Duke. He was also part of the winning combo in the 400 medley relay against Maryland and 200 medley relay against Duke. <\/p>\n
Lewis' Hilltopper teammate Wimberly also had an impressive weekend picking up a third place finish in the 1-meter diving event versus Duke and a second place finish in the 3-meter dive in the meet at Maryland. <\/p>\n
North Texas also swept the weekly honors for swimming and diving on the women's side as freshmen Alicia Hale and Bailey Devine were respectively named female swimmer and diver of the week which was also announced by the league office on Wednesday. <\/p>\n
Hale earned the award after being named the Co-Swimmer of the Meet at the UALR Christmas Invitational. At UALR, Hale won three individual events, broke two school records and led the Mean Green to a first place finish in the meet. For the year Hale has picked up wins in 13 events while only swimming in six meets. <\/p>\n
Hale has put her mark on the North Texas record books as she currently owns four school records with six times ranking her in the top-5 in school history. <\/p>\n
Fellow freshman teammate Bailey Devine also made waves this past weekend. Devine finished third in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives at the UALR Christmas Invitational posting scores of 318.90 and 355.65 respectively.
