BURLINGTON, Vermont, December 6. THE University of Vermont swimming and diving team recently participated in a \u2018Swim-A-Thon' on Nov. 26 to raise money for the Jarred Williams Foundation. Through the team's efforts they were able to raise $2,623 for the foundation.<\/p>\n
"On behalf of the Jarred Williams Foundation, I would like to thank each member of the UVM Swim Team as well as coach Gerry Cournoyer for their effort to raise money for the foundation," said Vermont head men's hockey coach and foundation board member Kevin Sneddon. "This money will significantly help families who are dealing with a chronically ill child in Vermont as well as upstate New York." <\/p>\n
The foundation began in 2001 in memory of Jarred Williams \u2013 a Richmond 13-year old who died of cancer after a very vibrant life and after a courageous battle with his illness \u2013 having been started by his parents and family friends. It provides financial assistance to Vermont and adjoining New York families who have a chronically ill child and who are of very limited financial means. To date, the Jarred Williams Foundation has assisted over 100 families by providing grants totaling more than $50,000.00.<\/p>\n
"It brings great joy to myself and all board members of the Jarred Williams Foundation to know that others are working hard to see that we continue to reach our goal of assisting many more families," said the president of the foundation, Dwayne Williams. "I personally want to thank each member of the UVM swim team along with their coach Gerry Cournoyer for doing something very special."<\/p>\n

"Our girls felt that helping out families with critically ill children through their tough times was an important cause and one that touched their hearts.
