Mireia Belmonte Garcia turned in a world best in the women’s 200-meter fly tonight at the Spanish Open Spring Championships in Malaga, Spain.<\/p>\n

Garcia crushed the world best in the women’s 200-meter fly with a scorching 2:05.86 tonight. \u00a0That swim blasted her own meet record of 2:06.25, and beat Brianna Throssell’s previous world-pacer of 2:06.60 from the SA State Championships in Adelaide.<\/p>\n

Judit Ignacio Sorribes put up a second-place time of 2:08.70 to take seventh in the world, while Ana Catarina Monteiro wound up third in 2:10.51.<\/p>\n

Marco Orsi became the third man to crack 22 seconds this year in the men’s 50-meter free with a 21.96 for the win. \u00a0That swim beat the meet record of 22.11 set back in 2004 by Eduard Lorente, and moved Orsi behind only Florent Manaudou (21.71) and Bruno Fratus (21.91).<\/p>\n

Konrad Czerniak placed second tonight in 22.14, just off his sixth-ranked season best of 22.13 from this morning. \u00a0Markel Alberdi took third tonight in 22.42.<\/p>\n

While Joseph Schooling is leading the Texas men to NCAA history<\/a>, another Singapore butterflier is giving him a run for his money in long course competition. \u00a0Zheng Wen Quah threw down a 1:56.85 to win the men’s 200-meter fly title. \u00a0That swim put him sixth in the world rankings, and closer to Schooling’s Singapore record of 1:56.27 set at the 2013 World Championships.<\/p>\n

Goncalo Quintanilha took second tonight in 1:57.55 with Carlos Peralta placing third in 1:57.81.<\/p>\n

Aliaksandra Herasimenia topped the women’s 50-meter free with a time of 24.98. \u00a0That swim vaulted her to 10th in the world rankings so far this year. \u00a0Sasha Touretski took second in 25.52 with Fatima Gallardo earning third in 25.95.<\/p>\n

Melani Costa Schmid hit the wall in 2:10.25 to win the women’s 200-meter back and move to ninth in the world. \u00a0Margherita Panziera finished second in 2:10.83 with Marce Duane Da Rocha taking third in 2:11.08.<\/p>\n

Jessica Vall Montero won the women’s 100-meter breaststroke in 1:07.62. \u00a0That swim put her right outside the top 10 in the world. \u00a0Ilaria Scarcella finished second tonight in 1:08.21, while Zeynep Gunes took third in 1:08.57.<\/p>\n

Melquiades Alvarez claimed the men’s 100-meter breast in 1:02.04 with Albert Puig earning second in 1:02.68. \u00a0Ivano Pizzolla wound up third in 1:02.76.<\/p>\n

Federico Turrini touched in 2:00.29 to win the men’s 200-meter back. \u00a0Hugo Gonzalez (2:00.93) and Mikita Tsmyh (2:01.00) closed out the top three .<\/p>\n
