The 1-meter diving competition at the men\u2019s NCAA championships featured Purdue\u2019s Steele Johnson winning his first collegiate national title, with Stanford\u2019s Kristian Ipsen providing strong competition. In separate interviews, the two discuss the competition and how they are carrying it forward to Friday\u2019s 3-meter event.<\/p>\n

The 1-meter event is not the best for either Johnson or Ipsen. Johnson, an accomplished platform diver, said the long hours of training helped him stay strong through the entire finals. Ipsen has been going through a transition at Stanford with a new coach after the retirement of Rick Schiavone, but the time off from the sport last summer has helped his mental attitude.<\/p>\n
