COLLEGE PARK, Maryland, December 1. THE Maryland Terrapins opened a two-meet weekend hosting the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in a dual men's meet this afternoon. Western Kentucky was victorious over Maryland 137-92.<\/p>\n
Junior Eric Thomasson (Severna Park, Md.), sophomore Eric Cullen (Severn, Md.), sophomore Andrew Weinert (Allentown, Pa.) and senior Danny Gray (Carlisle, Pa.) started the afternoon with a third-place finish and season-high time of 3:30.18 in the 400-yard medley relay. Gray, freshman Aleksandar Damjanic (Zagreb, Croatia), Weinert and Thomasson were the top finishers in the 400 freestyle relay (3:16.05).<\/p>\n
Gray went on to place second in the 50 free (21.54) with sophomore John Closs (New Providence, N.J.) in fifth (22.19) and sophomore Jake DiPiazza (Silver Spring, Md.) in sixth (22.61). Weinert placed second in the 100 free (48.04) followed by freshman Ryan Greene (Minnetonka, Minn.) in fourth (49.12).<\/p>\n
Freshman Chris Rouchard (Westlake, Ohio) led the Terps in the 200 free with a time of 1:46.75. Rouchard went on to finish second in the 500 free (4:47.59). In the 1000 free, junior Ken Golaszewski (Boulder, Co.) finished in third with his season-high in the event (9:55.21).<\/p>\n
In the 200 butterfly, Damjanic finished in fourth establishing his new season-best time (1:58.43). Thomasson swam to a third-place finish in the 200 backstroke (1:56.63). Cullen was first overall in the 200 breaststroke (2:09.14) with senior Tim Shepard (Catonsville, Md.) claiming the second-place position (2:10.88).<\/p>\n
Senior Tony Miller (Severna Park, Md.) was the top finisher for the Terps in the 200 individual medley in second place (1:56.74) followed by Shepard in third (1:58.75).<\/p>\n
Maryland dominated the 1 meter diving event with junior Derek Hock (Aliquippa, Pa.) claiming first with 267.22 points and freshman Patrick Meck (Rockville, Md.) placed second with 241.57 points.
