Efimova, swimming for the Trojan Swim Club, threw down a sizzling time of 1:05.89 to move almost a full second ahead of Alia Atkinson’s previous top time of 1:06.79 from the Orlando stop of the Arena Pro Swim Series.<\/p>\n

Efimova split the race 31.26, 34.63 after clocking a preliminary time of 1:07.19.<\/p>\n

Efimova qualified first in the 200-meter IM this morning with a 2:17.36\u00a0before dropping some time with a 2:15.60 to win the finale.<\/p>\n

She split the medley 29.17, 1:04.29 (35.12), 1:41.44 (37.15), 2:15.60 (34.16).<\/p>\n

Efimova moves another step forward in the journey to defending her 2013 world titles in the 50 and 200 breaststrokes. She’ll need to qualify for the Russian world team at next month’s nationals, and that looks like a strong possibility. With the world championships taking place in her home country, Efimova appears to be on track to give her homeland a boost as it moves on from a host of other drug suspensions in the past two years.<\/p>\n

Efimova’s drug suspensions came as the result of a positive test at the FINA World Cup in October 2013. Her world records and prize money from the affected meets were deemed null and void.
