Before Smith\u2019s 500-yard free title, those had been the only NCAA titles for the female Cavaliers.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Leah Smith, Virginia<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>On winning two titles<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>\u201cI owe it all to my coaches and teammates. They push me every day, and I think last year left me a little bit hungry. I was out for redemption because I didn\u2019t have the best meet. So, this year, my teammates and I have all been really positive, and we\u2019re trying to make history.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Smith vaulted to fifth all time in the event\u2019s history. She had been 11th all time with a 15:42.04 last year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>All Time 1650 Free<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"table-responsive\">\n<table class=\"easy-table easy-table-default \" Jessica Thielmann managed to take third in 15:46.68 in what proved to be a close battle for second.<\/p>\n<p>Smith\u2019s 12-second victory is pretty impressive, but doesn\u2019t come close to Janet Evans\u2019 NCAA record for the largest margin of victory.<\/p>\n<p>In 1990, Evans of Stanford threw down a 15:39.14, still ranking her eighth all time, to beat Texas\u2019 Andrea Hayes (16:04.08) by 24.94 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Surprisingly, defending NCAA champion and NCAA record holder Brittany MacLean wound up taking ninth overall in 15:59.12.<\/p>\n<p>California held the team lead 400.5-335.5 over
