CINCINNATI, Ohio, November 27. XAVIER University interim head swimming coach Steve Riegler has announced the signing of four student-athletes who will become Musketeers next fall. The fall class includes Ashley Sohngen, Kari Peglar, Sarah Weichelt and Lindsey Barton.<\/p>\n
"We are happy that these four have selected Xavier to continue their swimming career and embark on their collegiate academic career," said Riegler. "All of them have attained excellence in the classroom, the pool and throughout their respective communities."<\/p>\n
Ashley Sohngen (Cincinnati, Ohio\/St. Ursula Academy) will provide an immediate impact in the sprint freestyle events as well as on relays. Her prep times indicate Sohngen could be one of the top freestylers in XU history. Her top 50 free time is a 24.40, while swimming the 100 free in a personal-best 53.99<\/p>\n
Kari Peglar (Chesterfield, Mo.\/Lafayette) will swim backstroke and distance free for the Musketeers. With her strong academic background, Kari will have great success in the classroom as well as in the pool. Peglar owns top times of 2:10.25 in the 200 back, 5:10.97 in the 500 free and 17:51.48 in the 1650 free.<\/p>\n
Sarah Weichelt (Naples, Fla.\/Barron Collier) will add depth to the team's sprint free group. Her personal-best times include 24.76 in the 50 free, 53.75 in the 100 free and 1:09.25 in the 100 breast.<\/p>\n
Lindsey Barton (Sanford, Fla.\/Lake Mary Prep) will have an immediate impact in the distance free events. Her top times include: 500 free–5:05.77, 1000 free–10:22.91, 1650 free–17:25.66.<\/p>\n
"Our program prides itself on the success in the classroom as well as meeting daily practice challenges in order to improve our season-ending performance at the A-10 Championships," said Riegler.
