TORONTO, Ontario, November 26. THE second night of the Bell Grand Prix turned into the Ryan Lochte Show, as the American sensation notched three victories in short-course action Saturday night. The winner of the 200 backstroke on the first evening of competition, Lochte prevailed in the 50 backstroke, 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley.<\/p>\n
In his first year of post-collegiate competition, Lochte opened the night by winning the 50 back in 24.15, well ahead of the 24.78 turned in by Matt Rose. Lochte then bested the field in the 100 fly, thanks to a performance of 53.35, just ahead of the 53.48 from Joe Bartoch. To cap his spectacular showing, Lochte took top honors in the 200 individual medley in 1:57.96. Brian Johns touched second in 1:58.62.<\/p>\n
One night after breaking the Canadian record in the 100 freestyle, Brent Hayden established a national record in the 50 free behind a swim of 21.91. Rose was the second-place finisher in 22.02. Meanwhile, Rick Say won the 400 free in 3:47.97 and Mike Brown, the premier Canadian breaststroker, won the 200 breast in 2:10.78. <\/p>\n
In female action, Erica Morningstar and Brittany Reimer led the way. Morningstar was the victor in the 200 individual medley as she stopped the clock in 2:13.91 and 50 free (25.25). As for Reimer, she was timed in 4:06.86 in the 400 free, which was good for the decision.
