Glenn Patching has been making a comeback of sorts to Masters swimming, and the 56-year-old Olympian made his return complete with two U.S. Masters Swimming national records at the Sprinters Spectacular in Tempe, Ariz., on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Patching, 56, started with a 56.49 in the 100 backstroke, barely beating out the national record of 56.55 in the 55-59 age group held by Tom Barton since 2011. Patching took down another Barton record with a 26.05 in the 50 backstroke, erasing the 26.34 that Barton swam in 2011.<\/p>\n
Patching was an Olympian for Australia, competing in the 1976 and 1980 Games. He was the 1978 Commonwealth Games champion in the 100 backstroke and represented the University of Arizona at the collegiate level.<\/p>\n
Not including two previous meets this year, Sunday\u2019s meet marked Patching\u2019s first Masters competition since 2010. Patching began competing in Masters in 2003 and Sunday\u2019s swims mark his fastest times in Masters competition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
