{"id":127280,"date":"2015-03-15T20:20:55","date_gmt":"2015-03-16T03:20:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=127280"},"modified":"2015-03-15T20:20:55","modified_gmt":"2015-03-16T03:20:55","slug":"kirsten-jacobsen-posts-impressive-1650-free-clovis-wins-team-title-iowa-city-sectionals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/kirsten-jacobsen-posts-impressive-1650-free-clovis-wins-team-title-iowa-city-sectionals\/","title":{"rendered":"Kirsten Jacobsen Posts Impressive 1650 Free, Clovis Wins Team Title at Iowa City Sectionals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IOWA CITY &#8211; Barrington Swim Club&#8217;s Kirsten Jacobsen won her fourth and fifth individual events of the meet &#8211; including an impressive meet record in the 1650 free &#8211; and Clovis Swim Club claimed the team title as the Iowa City Sectionals meet wrapped up earlier tonight at the University of Iowa&#8217;s Student Recreation and Wellness Center pool.<\/p>\n<p>Jacobsen got the meet off to a quick start as she picked up her fourth individual win of the meet in the women&#8217;s 1650 free. Jacobsen torched the meet record and the rest of the field in the process, stopping the clock at 16:06.66 to obliterate Monica Drake&#8217;s 2014 meet record (16:32.84) and finish 46 seconds ahead of teammate Madgalena Emary (16:52.75). Clovis Swim Club&#8217;s Emily Niles picked up third in the event with a 17:02.84.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Eisen of Life Time Arizona topped the men&#8217;s mile in 15:32.24, cutting 23 seconds off his seed time and posting a 10 second win over Clovis Swim Club&#8217;s Colin Cavanaugh (15:42.08). Cavanaugh&#8217;s teammate, Tanner Olmos, dropped six seconds from his previous best to finish third in 15:42.82.<\/p>\n<p>Mitchell Aquatic Club&#8217;s Tevyn Waddell continued her outstanding meet with a third victory, this time in the women&#8217;s 200 back. Waddell won the 100 fly and 100 back earlier in the meet, and tonight posted a time of 1:58.95 to top the 200 back final. Samantha Coloma of the Terrapins came in second at 1:59.73, while Sophia Sorenson of Ames Cyclone Aquatics picked up third in 2:01.81.<\/p>\n<p>A second meet record went down in the men&#8217;s 200 back at the hands of Kenneth Mende, who clocked in at 1:44.07 to shave .04 off James Wike&#8217;s 2004 record of 1:44.11. Iowa City Eels&#8217; Alex Walton chopped three seconds off his prelim time to take second in 1:46.50, a second ahead of Ames Cyclone&#8217;s Dustin Rhoads (1:47.50).<\/p>\n<p>Jacobsen took home her fifth win of the meet in the 100 free, nearly cracking 50 with a 50.03 in finals. Clovis&#8217; Danielle Herrmann, who also posted a couple of individual wins in Iowa City, got second in 50.44, with Mitchell Aquatic Club&#8217;s Tevyn Waddell in third in 50.68.<\/p>\n<p>Clovis&#8217; Carl Weigley had an impressive race in the men&#8217;s 100 free, dipping under 44 with a 43.97. He finished just off Kyle Bubolz&#8217;s 2003 meet record of 43.90 but was still four tenths ahead of Life Time Arizona&#8217;s Kenneth Stirling (44.37). Jordan Huff of Dubuque Area touched third in 45.30.<\/p>\n<p>The women&#8217;s 200 fly final came down to the final few meters as Linn-Mar&#8217;s Kelsey Drake and Terrapins&#8217; Skyler Liu duked it out for first. Drake held the lead through 150 yards, while Liu came charging home on the final 50 to narrow the gap. She didn&#8217;t quite have enough to close the gap, however, as Drake touched first, 2:01.24 to 2:01.78. Peoria Area&#8217;s Rachael Kelch swam a 2:05.12 to secure third.<\/p>\n<p>In the men&#8217;s 200 fly, Christian Carbone erased his own meet record from 2014 with a 1:46.65, slicing .22 off his 1:46.87 from last year. Clovis&#8217; Preston Mayer finished a distant second in 1:51.98, just out-touching Piranhas&#8217; Nicholas Staver (1:52.00).<\/p>\n<p>Danielle Herrmann, Caitlyn Snyder, Stephanie Bartel and Skylar Elkington combined forces to give Clovis a win and meet record in the final 400 free relay. They posted a 3:24.51 to take a second and a half off Lake Country&#8217;s 3:26.06 from 2004. Barrington&#8217;s Valerie Tarazi, Magdalena Emary, Andrea Vega and Kirsten Jacobsen claimed second in 3:27.54, followed by Terrapins&#8217; Allie Klinger, Jessica Larson, Samantha Coloma and Malorie Han in 3:28.25.<\/p>\n<p>Clovis wrapped up the meet with a win in the men&#8217;s 400 free relay thanks to Carl Weigley, Omar Dwidar, Graham Hauss and Matthew Elkington&#8217;s 3:02.06. Dubuque Area&#8217;s quartet of Jordan Huff, Charles Warren, Nathan Hermann and John Colin took second in 3:04.53, with Terrapins&#8217; Nathan Barsanti, Sean Mahoney, Tyler James and Maxwell Bottene in third at 3:05.90.<\/p>\n<p>Clovis scored 922 points to win the combined team title over Terrapins (746 points) and Barrington (508 points).<\/p>\n<p><a
